In the Know with the Principal
Ms. Shaffer- Glenwood City Elementary Principal
It’s hard to believe how quickly time is flying by! Now that I’ve had a chance to settle in, I’m excited to begin sending out communications to keep you informed about what’s happening at school and in the classrooms.
As always, if you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. If I’m not aware of an issue, I can’t address it, so your feedback and communication are always appreciated and valued.
Thank you again for your continued support.

Changes to Parent Drop-Off
Changes to Parent Drop-Off After Thanksgiving Break
We have an important change to our drop-off procedures that will take effect after Thanksgiving break. Starting Monday, December 2, we will no longer be permitting parents inside the building past the front office during morning drop-off. This change is part of our ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for all students and staff. Please note, parents will still be able to drop off things in the elementary office.
Here’s how the new drop-off procedure will work:
- Drop-off will continue at the main entrance: Parents will be able to drop off their child at the designated drop-off area near the front of the building.
- Students will enter the building independently: After being dropped off, students will walk to their classrooms or the designated morning area with support from staff.
- Staff supervision will be available: Our staff will be stationed at key points to ensure students enter the building safely and efficiently.
Again, we ask that parents refrain from walking their children into the building or accompanying them to their classrooms. This procedure aligns with our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient morning routine while reducing congestion at the building's entry points.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we make this adjustment. Our priority remains the safety and well-being of all students, and we believe this change will help streamline the drop-off process and further safeguard our school environment.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Cooler Weather is Upon Us
Ensuring Students are Prepared for Outdoor Recess this Winter
As the winter months are upon us, we want to remind everyone of the importance of ensuring that your child is properly dressed for outdoor recess each day. Fresh air and physical activity are essential for students' well-being, and recess provides an important opportunity for them to engage in both.
Please make sure your child comes to school each day with the appropriate winter gear, including:
- Warm coat or jacket
- Hat
- Gloves or mittens
- Snow pants
- Winter boots
***Please label everything with the child's name
We will continue to send students outside for recess unless the weather conditions are extreme. Having proper winter clothing is essential for keeping children comfortable and safe while they play outside.
If you need assistance with obtaining winter gear, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We want to ensure that all students are prepared for the colder months ahead.
Thank you for your support in helping keep your child healthy, active, and engaged this winter!
