Wildcat Newsletter
Edition 39: June 5th, 2024
Dear Families and Staff,
June is here and we are racing to the finish! We had the opportunity to pause and thank our volunteers today. We know many more of you have volunteered than could attend; please know that we appreciate YOU!!! Whether you joined us one time or returned each week for a designated task, we wouldn’t be the same if it weren’t for your time and energy. Our volunteers sort clothing, hang posters, prep art materials, stuff Wednesday Folders, chaperone field trips, help in the classroom, read with our Wildcats, assist with digital or visual communications, clean the school grounds, lead a SUN enrichment, shelve books in the library, wipe down tables in the cafeteria, stack chairs in the auditorium, mend flags, participate on the Woodlawn Site Council and other District sponsored advocacy groups, refill water buckets for field day, count laps at Run for Woodlawn, and help us to be amazing by doing MANY other fun and not-so-fun tasks that support our Wildcat Community. Our hats are off to you: Parents, Caregivers, Extended Family, and Community Members. Woodlawn is a joyful place to learn and grow because of the time we share together.
Field day volunteers are still needed for Thursday June 13th. This fun-filled day signals the end of the school year. Coach Layman is looking for more volunteers to cover all of the activities that we’d like to offer our WIldcats. While some of the events do not need an adult to monitor them, many others need an extra set of hands and eyes so that students have FUN at the station. See the note below from Coach Layman.
Library books are due. Students will continue to visit the library with Mrs. Freeman but will no longer be checking out books. Help us recover our collection so that we have all of our favorites ready for Fall. Books can be turned into the school library or dropped in the school office.
Chromebooks must be returned to school. Please send the chromebook and charger back this week. We will be inventorying the classroom sets of devices next week. Fifth graders will be issued a different chromebook at their middle school. Next year, parents/caregivers will be required to sign some acknowledgements about computer software, applications and computer hardware.
Last call for claiming items from the lost and found. After June 14th, we will sort the items into a uniform pile and a donation pile. We wash all items that meet code of color guidelines and redistribute at the Welcome Back Fair in August. All other items are washed and sent to the PPS PTA Clothing Closet. If you are missing items, please stop in to take a look.
A reminder to mark your calendar for June 14th at 3:00PM for our Community Honk Out to celebrate our fifth graders. Decorate your car or bike, even walkers are welcome! We’ll begin the procession on NE 11th Ave adjacent to the Community Garden. Our 5th graders will line the sidewalk in front of school to wave and smile and enjoy the love from our Community!

PTA Updates:
Thank You!! Wow, Celebrate Woodlawn is truly a school wide effort. Another year and an incredible turn out. We could not have done it without all of the help from staff, volunteers, community and the PTA team. From hours of planning, to raffle donations to signing up to be covered in sugar dust behind the cotton candy machine. We appreciate all the time and effort folks put in to make this event a success. Special shout out to Mrs. T and her entire family for organizing food and being behind the grill to make sure the crowds are fed. We appreciate you Tinnon Family!
Alex Addy, artist in residence kicked things off with a drum performance with students. Followed by a talent show and open mic featuring more Wildcats. Thank you for the entertainment and joy. Hope others enjoyed getting their hands messy at the tie dye station and had plenty of treats. We are so grateful to have this celebration to remind us what a wonderful school community we have at Woodlawn.
If you'd like to be involved with Celebrate Woodlawn or other PTA event reach out woodlawnschoolpta@gmail.com.
CLOSET CLEAN OUT
Kids outgrow their school clothes? As you clean out your Wildcat closet, please bring any good condition, clean, code or color items to the front door. A bin will be located at main entrance for easy donation. We especially love to get Woodlawn T-shirts. All items collected will be available at the school wide swap at the back to school event in August.
SSS Extended Until June 7th
In order to allow for as much participation as possible, we are extending the deadline for the annual Successful Schools Survey until Friday, June 7.
As a reminder, the Successful Schools Survey is an opportunity for students, staff, and families to provide important feedback on their school environments, learning experiences, and sense of well-being and safety at school. We use the data from the survey to improve our schools and provide targeted feedback and training on how to create healthy school environments that are welcoming for all.
You can complete the Successful Schools Survey online using the link provided below. The survey will take approximately 15-30 minutes to complete and is available in English, Spanish, Russian, Somali, Vietnamese and Chinese.
Select Woodlawn from the dropdown at the beginning of the survey.
For more information about the Successful Schools Survey, please go to pps.net/sss2024.
