Announcing da Vinci's New Principal
May 2024
Dear staff and families:
I am pleased to announce that Scott Roosevelt has been appointed the permanent principal of da Vinci Arts Middle School after serving as interim principal since August 2023.
During this school year, Principal Roosevelt has worked to implement the middle school advisory curriculum, a robust student support and school climate team, and the district curriculum. He has also worked collaboratively with da Vinci staff and families to support the school’s many visual and performing arts offerings as part of a high quality middle school student experience.
Scott came to da Vinci from Grant High School where he served as vice principal from 2019-2023. At Grant, he was instrumental in expanding the school’s CTE and AVID programs, as well as dual credit and AP course offerings. He also designed a unique credit recovery program and helped establish a supportive school environment founded on culturally responsive teaching and equitable grading practices.
Principal Roosevelt’s extensive experience also includes working as vice principal of Milwaukie High School, Milwaukie Academy of the Arts, and Happy Valley Middle School. Prior to becoming an administrator, Scott was a social studies teacher for 10 years at both the middle and high school levels.
Scott earned his B.A. in sociology from the University of Oregon, his California single subject teaching credential from San Francisco State University, and his Master’s in educational leadership from Lewis and Clark College.
Please join me in congratulating Scott Roosevelt on being named permanent principal of da Vinci Arts Middle School.
Cordially,
Dr. Jon Franco,
Chief of Schools
