KEY NEWS FOR EXPLORER FAMILIES
I am not certain where the hours and days of this week have gone, and I realize the next two weeks will go quickly as well. Our classrooms have much to learn and accomplish as we round out semester one. We had the pleasure of hosting a team of program specialists from the district on Thursday of this week and they were truly in awe of the instruction they saw in the classrooms, the engagement of the students, and the warmth they felt as they spent the morning here.
Thank you to our school counselor, Jennifer Weeks, for organizing a wonderful Career Day for the school. The day was successful because the presenters were informative and engaging! Thank you to all who gave of their time to share their talents with our Explorers.
I am still including my wish to have greater participation for the Georgia Department of Education Parent Survey. Next week I will also send a link to the survey to families via an SMS text message so the ease of completing it on a cell device may entice more to take it. The feedback is reviewed at the state, district, and local levels and directly impacts our CCRPI (College and Career Readiness Performance Index) score. I was at a CCRPI training this week and was reminded of the importance of increasing participation and completion of the surveys. There are multiple components to a school’s CCRPI report, the survey results being one. You can find additional details in the graphic below, but you can also access the link here.
As a reminder, Northwood is a polling place for the runoff elections on Tuesday, December 5th. It is NOT a remote day. The district will provide police presence for the day and voters will have direct access to the media center while the other halls remain closed.
Right before the Thanksgiving break, the Northwood PTA surprised the staff with a delicious chicken biscuit and a Target gift card. The gesture was so well received and a well-timed token of staff appreciation in advance of the holidays. Thank you Northwood PTA!
With much gratitude,
Heather Rucker
Principal
SECOND GRADE EXPLORERS
Second Grade had so much fun applying their place value and base-ten math skills to create a Place Value Turkey! We loved seeing everyone work hard to share their knowledge in an exciting and creative way. Our second graders also made crafts to show their knowledge of story retelling and summarizing, where they pointed out the main idea and key details.
We hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving and Fall Break! We are so thankful to teach such wonderful students, and for all of the support that we continue to receive from families.
THIRD GRADE EXPLORERS
This week the Chattahoochee Nature Center visited our third graders! They brought several animals for the students to see and learn about. Students learned about animals that are native to our area. We were very proud of the way all of the students behaved during the presentation and the insightful questions that they asked.
GEORGIA STUDENT HEALTH SURVEY
The Georgia Department of Education (GA DOE) requires all public schools to participate in their Georgia Student Health Survey. To see the GA DOE informational website click here. The survey has two parts: one for parents and one for students in grades 3 -12. Each school must have a 75% participation rate on the student portion of the survey. Schools failing to meet the 75% student participation rate will score 0.00 points on the school's CCRPI survey calculation under the survey portion of the School Climate Star Rating.
Parent survey: Your opinion matters! Tell us about your experiences with the district and your school by filling out the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) Georgia Parent Survey required by the Georgia Department of Education. This survey provides a foundation for your school’s Climate Star rating score and is part of the CCRPI. These climate scores are an important indicator of culture and climate within each school in the district. Each school will receive a 1-5 star rating, with five stars representing an excellent school climate, and one star representing a school climate most in need of improvement. The surveys are anonymous and confidential and will remain open through Friday, December 15. To access the CCRPI survey, click here.
