Help us shape Emmett’s next school facilities/maintenance plan
Superintendent Craig Woods reviewed a proposal regarding facilities and maintenance needs Monday night during the board meeting. It is a first draft and it will change.
The first version calls for safety and efficiency improvements at nearly every school and some new construction. Read more about the proposal here.
The Board of Trustees discussed the concept during Monday’s meeting but didn’t make any decisions. Please respond to the survey by March 31st.
You can watch the recorded version of the board meeting here. No vote was taken. It will be discussed at the next board meeting.
Message from Superintendent Woods: Lessons we learned. Enjoy your spring break!
Two years ago, Idaho shut down because of Covid 19. Emmett schools were among the state's other schools that shifted education to online. It was a burden for everyone. It was not fun. But Emmett regrouped in August 2020 and returned to school. For the most part, we kept students in school.
We learned a lot during that time.
We are independent. Just because other school districts - most of them - kept students at home, we didn’t. We did what’s best for our students.. It was a stressful time, but with cooperation from parents, students, staff and again, the community, it worked out for the best.
We can adjust. We learned that the Emmett School District could adapt quickly and roll out an online education program. It wasn’t perfect. But we know, now, that we can adjust our schedule to include the occasional “online” school day to provide teachers time to train and improve instruction. Students will still have work to do those four days. If you look at the 2022-2023 school year, (see calendar information below) four such days are planned for next year.
It will always get better, but it won’t be the same. We’re going to live with COVID and its variants for a while. Everyone has done a great job overcoming obstacles and setbacks along the way. I remember when we reported our first COVID case in Emmett schools. It was frightening. Today, we are reporting two positive COVID cases, since February 23rd.
Enjoy your spring break.
