New Clerical Staff
You will notice that we have a new face in our main office. Please welcome Mrs. Sarah Plakas to A.W. Becker as part of our clerical team!
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Target
One of our Social Emotional Learning targets this year is that 95% of all students will receive a positive referral. To achieve it, our target is for at least 402 students to receive at least one positive referral this year.
As of this week, 165 students have received at least one positive referral.
The other Social Emotional Learning target is those students receiving less than 3 discipline referrals will increase to 95%.
As of this week, we are at 99% of our students receiving less than 3 discipline referrals.
Book Vending Machine
Last year, Mrs. Campbell/Mrs. Murray/Mrs. Bohl's 4th graders worked on a Project Based Learning (PBL) involving persuasive writing with Mrs. Wolfe, garnering support for a book vending machine at A.W. Becker. The teachers and students did an amazing job and produced persuasive letters to the Board of Education, Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, BLT and PTA.
As a result of their efforts and persuasive power, our school Building Leadership Team and PTA combined forces and brought their vision to life. This week, a book vending machine (purchased by our generous PTA) is installed in our cafeteria and ready to be utilized by all A.W. Becker students!
Students will be able to earn a token for the vending machine from a teacher/staff member. This is one of many incentives through PBIS where students are rewarded for positive behaviors. Classroom teachers will have more information on how to earn a token within their classroom or special area.
This is truly an example of authentic PBL: student outreach to the community for support and involvement with teacher guidance to result in a product to benefit all. Kudos to the teachers and students on a job well done! Thank you to our amazing PTA for supporting our educational endeavors.
Electronic Devices
As a reminder, the use of electronic devices is not permitted in school as per our Code of Conduct. This includes phones, gaming devices, electronic watches, etc. Students should not be using devices during school hours. If your child must bring a phone to school, it needs to be powered off and in their backpack all day. If they wear an electronic watch, they will only be permitted to use it for telling time.
New Playground
In case you haven't heard, we are very excited to have brand new playground equipment at A.W. Becker! Please feel free to enjoy the beautiful outdoors and bring your children to play after school hours. Outdoor play offers numerous benefits and can lead to better physical and social-emotional wellness. Best of all, it can be some fun time spent with your kiddos!
