Congratulations to the SCWS Teacher of the Year Mr. Rowe and the SCWS Staff Member of the Year Mrs. Featherstone!🎉 Thank you for all you do at SCWS!
A message from our school leaders.
"Spring is here! April is a busy month full of testing and school events. Make sure you read the entire newsletter so you are up to date. Remember, the last day of the traditional school year is May 31st with the extended school year starting June 1st. Reach out to your teachers and counselors for help and finish this school year strong."
Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Dunbar
Did you know that our Executive Director, Mrs. Dunbar, and Principal, Mrs. Adams are certified counselors too? Learn more about their school counseling background here.
"We are excited to be planning our very first prom at the end of April. If you would like to attend, be sure to purchase your tickets by April 21st. Also, if you are needing more time to earn your credit after the end of the traditional school year, be sure to complete the Extended School Year application which will be available at the end of April. If you are planning to work through the extended school year, remember, you must complete your course(s) by the target date. If you do not complete the course by the target date, you will be assigned the relative grade at the end of the course. Take advantage of the extra time if you need it!"

Staff Spotlight
Kristen Jones, English/Language Arts Teachers
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to play Animal Crossing or Mario Party on the Nintendo Switch with my family. When I'm not vegging out, I enjoy spinning and weight training at my local gym.
Tell a little bit about your background.
I have been teaching at SCWS for a total of 9 years! I graduated from Coastal Carolina University (Go Chants!) with a Bachelors in English in 2008. After a short time in the workforce and two kids later, I went back to school and earned a Masters in Teaching in 2013. I found SCWS shortly after graduation and I have loved it ever since.
I live in sunny Myrtle Beach with my husband and two kids. Rachael (13) loves to play her cello and actively plays in three separate symphonies. Ava (12) is a competitive dancer. They keep me very busy as a "mom uber" with afterschool practices and rehearsals.
What do you do at SCWS and what do you enjoy most about your role?
I am an English teacher at SCWS. I teach several courses including English 1H, English 2/2H, English 3, and AP Language and Composition. I love seeing my students succeed and helping them achieve their goals, especially when others say it can't be done.
What do you want the students to know about you?
I am here to help! I love meeting with my students one on one through Google Meet.
During quarantine, we created models of our favorite Mario Kart characters.
Celebrating our 15th Wedding Anniversary in St. Lucia this past May.
Rachael and Ava love going to the beach as much as they can.
