The Mane Tail
Friday, December 15th, 2023
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
Included in this newsletter is information about volunteering for our Winter Parties. Our Winter Parties will be held during large group time on Thursday, December 21st. Parents and guardians are welcome to sign up to volunteer at the parties. Volunteers are the only outside guests that will be allowed to attend our parties. Siblings are not allowed to volunteer at the party. The check-out procedure will be the same format that we followed on Field Day. Parents and/or guardians will need to walk to the front of the building to the table in front of the main entrance. We suggest sending a note with your child with the time that you are wanting to check them out. Teachers will send students to the waiting area at the time the parent asked for them to be ready. We have adjusted the times for 2nd and 5th grade parties. The schedule is below.
5th Grade - 8:20 - 9:15
2nd Grade - 9:20 - 10:15
3rd Grade - 10:15 - 11:10
4th Grade - 11:10 - 12:05
Kindergarten - 12:45 - 1:40
1st Grade - 1:40 - 2:35
Use the link below to pre-register if you would like to volunteer. The deadline to sign up to volunteer is Monday, December 18th at 4:00 p.m.

Message from the Nurse
As cold, strep and flu season progresses, we are in that time of year when students are coming down with upper respiratory symptoms. Strep throat is presenting itself with children not complaining of sore throat or a fever. Often children say they have a tummy ache, nausea and at times throw up. Flu is presenting itself with temperatures of upper 99’s or low 100’s, runny nose, and cough.
If your child has been diagnosed with strep throat, they must be in on an antibiotic for 24hours before returning to school.
Please be aware that Texas Administrative Code requires that students be excluded from school for a fever of 100.0 F or higher and they may not return to school until they are fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. Temporarily masking a fever with medication does not change the fact that the child is in the contagious period of an illness and may be spreading illness, like the flu, to others by coughing, sneezing, and by touching surfaces around the school.
While we value student attendance very much, it is important that everyone plays their part in keeping the spread of illness to a minimum by following this rule.
Please also make sure that you have your daytime contact numbers and emergency contacts up to date with the Registrar so that you can be reached in the event your child is ill and must be picked up from school.
For more information on when to keep a sick student home from school, please visit the district website at the following link, https://www.cfisd.net/Page/1924 . For guidance to communicable disease rules https://www.cfisd.net/Page/1920

Requests for Teachers to Complete Paperwork for Outside Sources
(Rating Scales, Observations, Areas of Strengths/Weaknesses)
In order for teachers to fill out forms or other information needed for outside sources (doctors, psychologists, agencies, private schools, taekwondo, tutors, etc.), we must have a release of information (consent) form from the parent. Parents may request the permission form from the counselor or through the teacher. A new permission form needs to be filled out each school year.
Once the permission form is completed and returned, the teachers may fill out the requested paperwork. At Sampson, we follow the CFISD’s procedure to send the paperwork directly to the outside source (doctors, psychologists, agencies, private schools, taekwondo, tutors etc.) via fax or mail. If the parent chooses for the information to be mailed, an envelope (addressed to the outside source with postage attached) should be included with the paperwork provided by the parent.
These procedures are to ensure the student’s needs are addressed legally and ethically.
If you have questions regarding this process, please contact the counselor.
Message to 5th Grade Parents
Information about K-Level classes for 6th grade:
Once students reach middle school, core classes are leveled: On-level and K-Level.
- On-level classes, just like K-Level classes, provide students with a college preparatory curriculum.
- K-Level classes have entry criteria to be put into the classes and criteria students must meet in order to remain in K-Level for the school year.
- K-Level classes are designed to challenge students beyond grade-level academic courses and prepare them for success in future advanced coursework. K-level classes are more rigorous and in-depth in content, often move at a faster pace, include different types of assignments and may require additional outside reading.
Students are eligible for K-Level classes in 6th grade (2024-2025 school year) if during their 5th grade year:
- Earn a yearly average of 85+ in subject (reading/language-average, math, science and social studies)
OR
- Earn Masters Level on the STAAR exam for the corresponding subject area
Students who meet the criteria will automatically be placed in K-Level courses for the corresponding subject. Parents may opt the students out of K-Level classes.
If students do not meet the criteria for eligibility, they will not be placed in K-Level courses.
Bringing Out the Best Character Education Program

Garden
The Sampson Imagination Garden needs your help! Please consider signing up for a 1-hour time slot in Membership Toolkit: https://sampsonpto.membershiptoolkit.com/volunteer/110509.
Twice a month, our partner Ready to Grow Gardens teaches hands-on science lessons to all of our 2nd and 3rd-grade students. We need parent volunteers to help maintain the garden and prepare the beds for planting on these days. You do not need to be a gardener or know much about gardening to help!
