We had our first Homecoming Assembly in over two years on Wednesday, September 8th. In order to reduce the number of students in the gym and still give our students an "assembly feel," Seniors were given the opportunity to attend the assembly in person while the rest of the student body watched via live stream. In adherence to the current COVID guidelines, students who attended in-person and participated in activities wore masks during the assembly.

Last Wednesday we were able to get back to the time-honored tradition of "Honor Roll Donuts." Prior to the pandemic, every semester we honored students who met Honor Roll criteria with a certificate and a donut. This year, with a few modifications, we were able to get back to the "Honor Roll Donut" tradition. Thank you to PTO who helped us recognize and reward over 1200 students who achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher last semester!

Congratulations to the 26 STUDENTS who were named National Merit Semi-Finalists for the class of 2022. The class of 2022 from Beckman was one of the highest performing schools in the county on the 2021 PSAT/NMSQT. New Student Lunch is a joint venture with Link Cru and the Connect Outreach Team. Link Cru organizes the activities and Connect leaders focus on building relationships with new students as well as supporting the execution of the event. This year we had over 80 new students attend the lunch, where PTO served Pizza, Cookies & water, and Link Cru and Connect Team greeted them with music, conversation, and some fun activities. It was great to see the new students smiling and interacting with each other & the Connect and Link leaders, and hopefully they now have some more familiar faces around campus.

You are likely aware that we have shifted our bell schedule this school year to accommodate a later start time, but you may not be aware that our Wednesday schedule has also been altered. Wednesday's now are used for enrichment, review, practice, and remediation in ALL 6 periods. Teachers use their class time on Wednesdays to help kids catch up, review material from prior days, or to expand on a topic that was previously taught. The day is essentially 6 "tutorial periods" in one school day. It's still new to the staff and we are still exploring the best ways to utilize the time, but the idea is to give kids and teachers the break in the week they requested that is similar to what we had last school year.

Your PTO has been active and busy! PTO welcomed 170 new students to TUSD during the recent New Student luncheon. A special thanks goes to our wonderful volunteer committee for putting this together! In addition, PTO approved funding the purchase of new AP Literature books, and sponsored Honor Roll recognition, a returning tradition! More than 1200 Patriots celebrated their ‘sweet success’ of academic achievement with a donut (and healthy snack) giveaway!

We invite students to join Revolution Prep for interactive strategy sessions to practice for the official PSAT, SAT and ACT! These free two-hour sessions are designed to give students insight into the PSAT, SAT and ACT exams as well as provide tips and tricks for test day. In these sessions, one of our professional tutors will teach core test-taking strategies including a dive into the exam content and structure, how to avoid common traps, and how to create the best plan for success.

Why take a practice exam? Although some colleges and universities are currently test optional, many students are pursuing SAT or ACT scores to strengthen their applications to test optional schools, to qualify for scholarships, and to understand their academic strengths and weaknesses. Knowing your numbers will help you make educated choices in the college application process. By taking a practice ACT and SAT exam, students can determine which test they are best suited for. Taking a mock exam is also a great way to determine if taking an official exam is right for you.
