Advisory - Riverside County advances to next phase in reopening, approved by the state to enter ‘red tier’
Riverside County has been approved by the State of California to move into the next phase of reopening, health officials confirmed Tuesday morning.
"We have received confirmation from the state, we will be entering the red tier today," Dr. Cameron Kaiser said in the Board of Supervisors meeting this morning, "and once the official announcement is made, may resume activities consistent with that position in the state framework."
What does this mean for TVUSD schools?
Beginning today, the county would have to remain in the red tier for at least two weeks before schools can begin to reopen for on-campus instruction. As a collaborative step, TVUSD previously agreed to provide our labor associations (TVEA and CSEA) with an additional 7-day notice of any intent to return to on-campus instruction. It is important to remember that, while we have transitioned to the red tier, TVUSD’s plans for any on-campus instruction will be consistent with recommended safety protocols and mandates regarding face coverings, social distancing, and cleaning, which will likely require a hybrid/cohort model.
When can TVUSD families expect an update regarding on-campus instruction and TVUSD’s reopening plan?
The administration will provide a detailed update on TVUSD’s reopening plan, associated timelines, and action steps at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting on October 6, 2020.
TVUSD is optimistic about Riverside County’s movement to the red tier and the future opportunities this represents for our TVUSD community. In the meantime, we continue to work within the framework of the currently allowable parameters to offer learning hubs for some of the most vulnerable students within our special education and English learner populations. The hubs have proven essential, not only in the support of students but also in providing valuable insights to assist us in further development and refinement of our safe return to on-campus instruction plans.
We look forward to sharing details and information at the October 6 Board meeting. We encourage all stakeholders to tune into our meeting. The time and details will be shared via our Board of Education website https://www.tvusd.k12.ca.us/boardmeetingagendas and live-streamed via the District's Youtube channel.
