CTA Goodman Friday News
July 20, 2022
Message from the Principal
I hope our Gator students had a wonderful first few days back in school. As always, the first week or two of school can be hectic. Whether it’s getting acclimated to a new teacher, connecting with friends, or readjusting sleep schedules, a lot is going on. Please take the time to check in with your student to see how they’re doing. Just like your students, our teachers and staff are also re-acclimated. Don’t be afraid to check in on them too! This high heat is hard on all of us.
Parents, please be patient with us during dismissal. I promise it will get better. Currently, we are dismissing students from various places around campus. I must keep them indoors during these extreme heat days to keep our students safe.
As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or feedback.
Have a wonderful weekend, and try to stay hydrated and cool.
Mrs. Graham
First Day of School - Words of Wisdom
Good Morning, Goodman Gators. We are so excited to have you back on campus. This year, we will continue working together to create and maintain a positive learning environment that lets your greatness shine! You have the power to make good choices, be a friend, and be great in everything that you do. Over the next couple of weeks, we will focus on what it means to show greatness. Without you, Goodman would not be a great school. Our expectation for you this year is always to try your best, ask for help when you need it, and be kind to each other. We challenge each of you to include one another so everyone feels like they belong here at CTA Goodman. With something to think about, this is Mrs. Graham. Make it a great day, Gators; the choice is yours.
Counseling Corner
Welcome back! It is great to have all our Gators back on campus. As we settle into our back-to-school schedule, please remember routines provide stability, structure, and predictability for our students.
Here are some ways you can incorporate routines into your home throughout the school year:
- Homework routine: a predictable time and place to complete homework that works for both your student and family.
- Bedtime routine: a set time to unplug from electronics and connect with your child.
- Morning routine: for our youngest students, visual checklists can help them understand what to expect each morning before school. Arriving at school on-time allows students to have a calm and predictable start to their day.
- Drop-off routine at school: A quick and predictable good-bye is important to helping our students transition into their school day. Start your student off with a positive mindset!
- Pick-up routine: Open-ended questions help you learn about your student’s day. You can ask for a “high and low” or a “peach and a pit” to their day. Some students are ready to talk immediately at pick-up, and others need a moment before they are ready.
Please reach out with questions or if you have concerns about your child. I can be reached by email at shunk.susan@cusd80.com.

Food & Nutrition
- Students qualified for free & reduced priced meals LAST year will have 30 days to reapply this year for SY24 eligibility. Those students who do not reapply before August 30th will revert to PAID status on August 31st. F&N will communicate with families about the need to reapply before August 30th, but any help you have provide is greatly appreciated.
- Students at our K-6 schools without money will be allowed to charge the meal and communication will go home about the negative balance accrued. Once a student reaches $500 in negative balance, our point of sale system will no longer serve them. Our F&N office and field supervisors, along with kitchen managers will work with principals, counselors and the office to help families manage that need before it reaches that point, however it can and does occur in some instances.
- If parents would like to send their students with a check for their meal account, they should make it payable to CUSD Food & Nutrition and include student name and ID. There is no fee or limit associated with this transaction.
