I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new members to the Inglewood Primary School Board of Trustees; Shaun Tee, Sarah Lucas-Broughton, Paul Edwards and Chris Gyde. These four members were elected together with Chris Dalliston after the votes were counted on Thursday. A total of 20% of our parent community voted. This low return of parental voting forms, resulted in much need experience and expertise being overlooked.
On Thursday after discussion with Chairperson Grant Kenny and the School Trustees Association a recommendation was made to co-opt back on to the Board of Trustees; Tash Allerby and Ray Smillie. This was passed unanimously by all five of the elected members, strongly indicating their commitment to the shared vision and continued progress here at Inglewood Primary School
Ray and Tash's expertise, advise and guidance, which they have actively demonstrated commitment to, during their time on the Board of IPS includes;
Ray has phenomenal knowledge and is currently heavily involved in our Asset Team; - Property and Finance
Property Projects underway which include;
· Hall upgrade (we are having to move two classes in the hall)
· B Block coverway roofing and remedial work
· H Block - Swimming Pool roof remediation
· A Block Hall Library and Library (old) new toilets
· Coverway over the area into the hall from the carpark
· Demolition of C & G Blocks - including data, security and power
· Rebuild of 6 new classes
· Driveway remediation
Finance
Ray understands the working budget and what is required in the many and varied aspects involved including;
Plant and replacement funds
Accrued Leave
Asset replacement
New Initiatives, including Bike Track, Playground
Tash also has huge knowledge and is highly active in her role as a School Trustee. Her expertise is in;
· Human Resources
· Health and Safety - this is a huge area
· Policy and Procedural Documents - all areas
· Cultural Responsiveness - including being on the Steering Committee for our Tomokanga
· Kahui Ako o Kohanga Moa -
Mr Grant Kenny as outgoing Chairperson of the Board of Trustees is holding an induction / information session for our new members to assist with the transition and readiness for the next BoT hui / meeting Wednesday 26 June at 6:45pm in the Staffroom.
As Principal I am excited to be working alongside seven dedicated people with a variety of skills, expertise and experience. Inglewood Primary School is in good hands and the future is positive with our Governing Board for the next three years.
I wish to formally acknowledge the commitment and dedication from Tracey Phillips, Lara Phillips and Sherryl Molloy who have been on the Inglewood Primary School Board of Trustees in excess of 9 years each.
Each of these members have given their own personal time in more ways that attending Board Meetings. Tracey has been a valuable member with her financial expertise, holistic view of education and Deputy Chair when needed. Lara has put in hours (too many to count) assisting with the fundraising for Parent Link and is the valuable Parent Link Liaison. Sherryl Molloy has been Staff Representative adding the voice of the staff through reporting and Hauora for all.
I must also make a special mention and extend a very large public thank you to the outgoing Board Chair Grant Kenny.
Grant has been highly involved and visible within the school over his nine years of service. Grant gives freely of his own time (often taking annual leave ) to meet the commitments of his position as Board Chair. Grant has supported the school with many and varied fundraising events including our recent Puke Haupapa Art Auction. Grant provided solid leadership and support during the traumatic loss of our Emma, whilst grieving personally for Emma as a close family friend.
Grant together with Ray Smillie have spent endless hours (too many to count) over the years working with myself to successfully liaise with Ministry of Education Property personnel to undertake and complete many property projects. Grant is a voice of reason and stability when reviewing and preparing various documents which are required.
Grant's commitment and shared understanding of the inner workings of the Structure and Systems of Inglewood Primary have been invaluable during external review undertaken by the Education Review Office. There are so many more reasons to thank and acknowledge Grant however, there really are not enough words.
In closing, I do wish to say, Grant your partnership, integrity and honesty has been much appreciated and will be missed, as will your sense of humour and inherent ability to bring joy and laughter - Board meetings will not be the same.
