A message from Ms. Elizabeth Martinez, Principal
Proviso West Administration would like to be proactive in communicating areas of concerns that impact our students and their achievement and share our action plan on addressing it. Below I have included the Proviso West High Schools “Tardy to Class Plan.” We encourage each parent / guardian to go over it with their student.

Tardy to Class Plan
Goal
Our goal is to maximize instructional time in the classroom by creating a culture in which students prioritize arriving to class on time. In addition, we strive to reduce traffic in the hallway during class time through progressive intervention structures which are proactive, not reactive.
Tardy Policy
Students have 5 minutes to transition from one period to the next. All students are expected to arrive to each class on time and be prepared to learn by the time the period bell rings.
Strategy and Interventions
A Tardy Report from PowerSchool on Tuesdays. The Tardy Report lists the total number of times each student was late to any class during the previous week, as reported by classroom teachers through class attendance in PowerSchool. Accurate attendance taking is critical to this process. Note: Tardy Excused will not be counted in this report. Teachers use Tardy Excused when students present a pass indicating they were with another staff member.
Students will be assigned an intervention based on the total amount of tardies to class they have accumulated during the previous week. The intervention structure goes as follows:
• 3-5 Tardies in one week = Detention Intervention
• 6-10 Tardies in one week = RESET Room Intervention
• 11 Tardies in one week = Parent Conference and/or Intervention
The Tardy Report will be used to generate referrals which will then be given to the interventionists and the Assistant Principals for Student Success. Our interventionists include Mr. Hesslau, Mr. Moore, Ms. Washington, and Ms. Ford. The interventionists will deliver the referrals to the students identified in the report by visiting their classroom. The interventionists will try to minimize the disruption as much as possible.
Students are required to take the referral form to each of their teachers, as they see them throughout the school day, and the referral form must be signed by each classroom teacher. In addition, parents/guardians will be contacted the day the referral is issued to the student so they are aware of the intervention, and parents must sign the referral form as well. The purpose of the multiple signatures is to make sure the student takes ownership for their actions, improve communication with staff regarding interventions issued to students, and improve home/school communication with parents.
Each student will be assigned to after school intervention, supervised by a school administrator, on either Tuesday or Thursday from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Bus service will be available after the intervention session. The day after the assigned intervention session, interventionists will follow up with students who did not attend. Failure to serve the intervention will result in additional
consequences.
We look forward to partnering with our parents, creating an enriching environment for learning and providing the necessary tools where all students can be successful.

Proviso West Homecoming Weekend
Proviso West student body showed up to support their teams and classmates during the Homecoming weekend. The festivities kicked off with Spirit week and culminated with a Masquerade Ball on Saturday Night. On Saturday morning, the celebration began with a parade down Wolf Road with Hillside First Responders, and local community officials leading the way. In the afternoon, both the Freshmen and Varsity football teams competed their games against Lyons Township. They were cheered on by the fans, cheerleaders and dance squads. Homecoming week ended with a Masquerade themed dance held at Proviso West in the gym. Student were able to dance, enjoy great music, and take photos at the 360-video booth.
Proviso's Technology Department has been hard at work this summer, ensuring that all technology resources and support are ready and available for the start of the school year. Below is a list of common links, building IT staff, and application-specific contacts.
District 209 has made tutoring accessible to All students thru PAPER! This tutoring resource provides FREE Academic Support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Music
Ms. Salina Watson, music teacher and choir director, prepares her class for a semester of experiencing music in various ways and understanding music in relation to history and culture.
Band
Mr. Samuel Atcher, band teacher and band director, engages with his students as they focus on the creative process of creating, performing and responding. Students will learn new skills as well as build on existing ones.
