BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — We all remember how exciting it was to get our driver’s license. It’s a memorable moment during high school, being able to finally get behind the wheel and drive you and your friends wherever you want, but one Palm Beach County student had a different kind of license in mind.

West Boca’s Calliope
West Boca’s Calliope was selected to perform at the 2023 American Choral Directors Association Florida Region Conference. They were one of only two choirs chosen based on three years of recordings that passed two rounds of blind auditions. West Boca will serve as a model of high school choirs for 300 secondary choral music educators across the state of Florida. The students will perform on Friday, October 27th at the First United Methodist Church of Orlando in Orlando, FL. Their program will open with an arrangement of the Russian piece Spring Waters by Rachmaninoff, followed by a mini set including an Icelandic piece Raudi Riddarin and Tancnota by Kodaly. (Thank you to Ms. Balazs for helping us with our Hungarian!) Following our Eastern European music set, Calliope will sing the lush, tranquil melody of Lake Isle of Innisfree by Eleanor Daley which sets the iconic words of William Butler Yeats. The choir will close the program joined by a string quartet from the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. Never Shall I Forget by Adam Schoenberg sets the words of Elie Wiesel’s “Night” into a larger work consisting of three movements and they will conclude their performance with Srul Glick’s arrangement of Psalm 23. Please congratulate these students on this major achievement!

Homecoming or Prom Donations
We are currently accepting lightly worn party dresses and suits for prom to be donated for students that may have a need for homecoming this year. Please clean out your closets so that students that may not be able to purchase a suit or dress will be able to feel their best at homecoming this year. Students can contact me anonymously and set an appointment time to go shopping in the closet. All we will ask is that they clean the garment and return it after homecoming for someone else to borrow.
Donations can be brought to the front office, room 12, 107, or let me know and I can have students pick them up from a class room.
Thank you so much !
