This year our teacher committees have been tasked to have student focus groups to support and help develop their focus and to get student input. Staff will be meeting this Wednesday, August 30th and will send out information about how students can sign up with a committee they find interesting.

Equity- We are getting ready to launch the student groups the week after Homecoming week. The staff will be learning about the West Des Moines Shared Language.

PBIS- At Stilwell Junior High we feel it is important for all students to feel welcomed and respected and most importantly to always choose,”KIND”. Students demonstrate this by following the 3 Stilwell R’s.

• Respect

• Responsible

• Resilient

When demonstrating these cornerstone qualities through their actions in the classroom, the hallway, and their participation in extra curriculares, students will be rewarded within Stilwell’s Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports or PBIS system. Students digital rewards appropriately named PBIS Rewards can be used to purchase items of appreciation from our PBIS store during lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Stilwell’s PBIS mission helps our school create a positive climate in which every student can learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Tier 1- We are always looking to improve our instructional pratices and this committee looks at consistent practices in the classroom and promotes the learning that our students are looking for and expecting.

Student and Staff Wellness-The committee discussed how to improve staff and student relationships and how to make Stilwell a place students want to be at - where they feel they belong. We wanted to remind students that we are participating in the Healthiest State Walk in October. We are excited to plan a Homecoming assembly for students to feel more connected to the school. We discussed what we see our student needs are and how to best meet those needs in our Tiger Time Lessons.
