American Education Week
Dear Atholton Families,
This coming week is American Education Week! This week is about appreciating the hard work that goes into providing students a quality education. It takes an entire cadre of professionals – custodians, cafeteria workers, teachers, administrators, and support staff – to provide that quality education. It is our hope that you will have an opportunity to visit this week to see our professionals in action. We are hopeful that a day in school will further your appreciation of our high school program of studies and provide encouragement for the school work being done by students and teachers. Even if you cannot spend a full day with us, we believe that any part of the day you are here will be interesting for you and supportive of your daughter or son. We look forward to seeing you!
This past weekend students from Atholton had an opportunity to participate in a student leadership conference in Washington, D.C. entitled LEAD DC. The mostly juniors and seniors had an opportunity to interact with students from across the country to talk about making a change in their schools. I am excited to hear some of the great things they have learned and how they are planning to work to make Atholton an even better school.
Parent conferences begin next week. I hope you have had the opportunity to register for conferences. Please see below for information on how to go about scheduling conferences online.
Lastly, on a more serious note, I want to encourage both parents and students to communicate with the school regarding any issues that arise between students. This past week there was an altercation that occurred that could have been prevented had someone communicated with the school. Any potential conflicts you perceive should communicated immediately to allow us to successfully meditate before things become confrontational. While this altercation was certainly an anomaly, it is important that parents communicate any potential issues that may exist and not chalk them up to simply kids being kids.
Have a terrific week!
Warmest Regards,
Robert Motley, Principal
