School Designations - Congratulations to all District 41 Schools!

The annual Illinois School Report Card has been released. The Report Card is generated by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and includes designations for each school in four categories – exemplary, commendable, underperforming, or lowest-performing. District 41 schools are designated in the top two categories of “exemplary” or “commendable.” We are extremely proud of all of our students and staff members for their hard work and dedication.

Equity Journey Continuum

New to the Report Card this year is the Equity Journey Continuum. The Continuum is an informational tool for districts to track their progress toward closing gaps in student achievement, opportunities, and supports. Through the lens of equity, the tool analyzes a continuum of district-level data points to make that data more useful for improving outcomes for all students. To see District 41’s data, click here.

District 41 Participates in Rotary Mentor Day

As part of the Glen Ellyn Rotary Club Mentor Day, Glenbard West junior and former D41 student (attended Lincoln and Hadley) Peyton Smith shadowed D41 Chief Communications Officer Erika Krehbiel on Thursday, November 3. They also attended a luncheon at the Glen Oak Country Club to celebrate all of the students who participated in the program. Peyton plans to intern with Ms. Krehbiel this summer. Thank you, Rotary, for this opportunity.

Hauntcert at Hadley

The Hadley Jr. High School 8th Grade Band presented their first-ever Hauntcert (Halloween) Concert on Thursday, October 27, 2022. The evening began with a fun trick-or-treating event, where Hadley 8th Grade Band musicians distributed candy and goodies to young attendees. The concert portion of the evening included haunting and scary music, including Ghosts in the Graveyard, The Tell-Tale Heart, Grim Grinning Ghosts, A Rockin’ Halloween, and Count Rockula. Hadley Jr. High School Principal Steve Diveley served as the judge for the costume contest with some help from young attendees. The final piece of the evening, Count Rockula, was introduced by composer Timothy Loest who was in attendance, alongside a drawing inspired by 8th grade saxophonist Karolina Konopka.

The Hadley Jr. High 8th Grade Bands will collaborate with renowned composer and educator Timothy Loest as he composes a commissioned piece thanks to the JCS Fund and Young People’s Music Initiative grant. You may find more information about Mr. Loest in his biography. A spooky good time was had by all!

Hadley Soccer Champions

The Hadley soccer team won the conference championship for the first time in history! Congratulations, players and coaches. Way to go!

District 41 Music Department Awarded Grant

Hadley Jr. High Music Department

The D41 Music Department applied for a Young People’s Music Initiative grant from the JCS Fund of the DuPage Foundation and was awarded a grant for the project "Hadley Jr. High School Performing Arts Instruments." This will allow students to perform with beautiful instruments for many years to come.

The Hadley 8th Grade Bands are collaborating with composer and educator Timothy Loest as he composes a commissioned piece thanks to the Young People’s Music Initiative grant. This piece will be performed at the Spring Band Concert on May 16, 2023.

The Hadley Jr. High 8th Grade Orchestra will be working with Grammy Award Winner Record Producer and Composer, Mr. Ian Fitchuk. He will be composing a piece for the Hadley String Orchestra sponsored by the grant. Ian Fitchuk’s father Mr. John Fitchuk, retired local orchestra director, will be the guest conductor.

The Hadley Jr. High School Music Department will also benefit from the purchase of video equipment, theremins, boomwhackers, and hand percussion equipment.

Elementary Instrumental Music Department

All 5th Grade Bands will benefit from the purchase of electronic mallet stations, euphoniums, and alto saxophones. The Band Department also hosted the first “Beginning Band Kickoff Day,” sponsored by the grant. The 5th Grade Beginning Orchestra bass students will benefit from new upright string basses and bows, as well as bass repairs.

Elementary General Music Department

Music classes will benefit from newly purchased instruments for Drum Circles: Djembes, Tubanos, Shakeres, and Djembe Stands. Mrs. Deanna Cholke at Forest Glen and Mrs. Michele Couzens at Churchill are piloting the new drums for this school year.
