Longhorn Football to Host Undefeated Mansfield for Homecoming
For the sixth consecutive time this season, the Cedar Hill High School Football Team will face an undefeated opponent. The Tigers sit atop the District 6A-11 Standings with perennial powers DeSoto and Duncanville.
"It's definitely a must win game," Cedar Hill head football coach Nick Ward said.
Their last victory was a 35-33 win over crosstown rival, Mansfield Lake Ridge. In that win, Mansfield quarterback Braxton Van Cleave passed for 222 yards and two touchdowns. James Johnson had 15 carries for 144 yards. Jacobe Hayes caught seven passes for 130 yards and both touchdowns.
Last season, Mansfield went 7-4 after a 6-0 start to reach the playoffs. They lost to Harker Heights, 26-2, in the first round.
Ward said the Longhorns looked at the Duncanville loss on September 22 as a way to build for the future.
"Duncanville had to learn to be a good program from somebody, and that was Cedar Hill under Joey McGuire," Ward said. "Now, we have to do the same - use Duncanville's model to build our program."
