What would AES be without Kindness? This is such an important core value that we are spending next week celebrating and recognizing kindness! All classrooms will read Enemy Pie, a book about how to grow friendships even when things are not always smooth. Keep an eye out on the hallway doors- they will be decorated with a kindness theme! Each day there holds a kindness challenge for all in the AES community, and we will be working on "cooking up" a kindness pie as a follow-up to the story (the pie will be made of paper, however!) Acts of kindness will be recognized with paper chain links, and we will hang our chain around the school to highlight all the kindness that happens here! You can join in the excitement by completing a kindness bingo board at home!

On Thursday, February 16th from 5:30 to 6:30, AES will be sponsoring the monthly Community Supper. The supper is held at the First Presbyterian Church on Main Street. The menu will be a combination of different casseroles, salads and desserts. There will be a gluten free option available. Special program note: There will be a CPR and Narcan overview at this supper as this program was postponed from last month’s supper. This will be a brief overview of hand compression CPR and how to adminster Narcan in the event of an opiod overdose. People can also take a Narcan kit home with them. This supper is free and open to the public. If you know you are coming, please email info@grapevinenh.org subject=Community Supper to help us with our planning. However, if it is a last minute decision to attend we welcome you as well. We hope you can join us there!

Franklin Pierce is hosting a free clinic on February 12, 2023 for National Girls and Women’s Sports day.

It is very important that your child attend school every day, however, we do realize that there are reasons when a student is not in school. Per our district policy JH, an absence is excused for the following reasons:

The Board considers the following to be excused absences:

1. Illness
2. Recovery from an injury
3. Required court attendance
4. Medical and dental appointments
5. Death in the immediate family
6. Observation or celebration of a bona fide religious holiday
7. Such other good cause as may be acceptable to the Principal or permitted by law

If your child is out for a reason other than reasons 1-6, the Principal must be notified prior to the absence. If not, then the absence will be considered Unexcused. We are set up so that an absence that is considered Unexcused, a call will go out at 10:10 alerting a parent to the absence. Pickup Patrol is set up so you can easily notify us as to an absence (citing the reason as well) or you can always call at 603-588-6371.

We had so much fun celebrating the 100th day of school in Kindergarten! We read books about the number 100, played games, wrote our numbers all the way from 1-100, made crowns and of course counted. We are definitely 100 days smarter! We also earned extra outside time and hot chocolate for completing 10 more levels on Lexia!

We practiced writing the numbers 1-100. We also rolled a die, and added (colored) to 100. We also (no picture) did 10 different exercises 10 times each. We will also make “100 Days Smarter” crowns and glasses this afternoon.

Miss. Gilbert's 4th grade class has an update about the Great Mail Race! We have received a handful of letters back from other states and we are so excited. We have received letters from Alabama, Indiana, Virginia, Nevada and Ohio so far. Some of the schools even sent us brochures and drew us pictures! We are keeping track of the states on our scratch-off map. Hopefully we can scratch them all off by the end of the year!

Did you know that there are many different ways to learn math facts? Grade two students practice their addition and subtraction facts to twenty and beyond during math workshop time using decks of cards, cuisenaire rods, ten frame cards, dice, etc. to help them with mental math memory.
There is a lot of math exploration and learning happening in 2nd grade!!!

First-grade readers are learning about nonfiction text structures like captions, diagrams, labels, and more. Partners and groups are excited to create models and other projects to show what they've learned from reading a text. Each reader will write three detail cards and teach the rest of the class something new about their book topic as they share their projects.
