Hello North Rockland Families:
We have reached the finish line! We’ve arrived here NR Strong.
I am so proud of the school year we will be concluding next week. So proud of our educators, faculty, administrators and staff, who are always finding new ways to make more happen for the students of North Rockland than ever before. We have had an incredible and unforgettable 2022-23 and we are truly ending it on a high note.
The theme of this academic year in North Rockland has been, above all, inclusion. From students of all ability levels receiving opportunities to learn and lead alongside their peers in the classroom, on the courts and on trips, to gamers beginning their ESports team, children enjoying cornhole or fishing, positive postcards home from SPE teachers, the ping pong club’s massive tournaments and so much more; There was an opportunity for every child to branch out and flourish, NR Together.
Over the last 10 months, the District really expanded our horizons when it came to after-school and trail-blazed in terms of programming and partnerships. We took an uncharted path to a new direction, unrelenting and unafraid and it produced tremendous results.
Adding and implementing new rigorous curriculum, fun development initiatives like First in Math, the Dual-Language Program or giving high schoolers the tools to get career-ready with the Work Study Program, College and Career Center or on-the-job experiences with Westchester Medical led not only to students extraordinary growth but success.
The goal we set and achieved was to support a systemic district-wide upgrade plan to support every student by name, by need. The approach included additional classified staff to support our classrooms, the development and launch of Integrated Co-Teach Models (ICT) and specialized VISIONS programs, which allowed us to keep more of our students in their schools to receive special services.
This is something that is very new nationwide as usually districts use outside agencies to deliver these types of services, ultimately resulting in the children spending less time in their physical schools and with peers during key developmental years. I strongly recommend you watch more on the wonderful program in which students have surpassed their year-end progress goals in the Willow Grove Elementary Special Education video below.
Everyone this school year from our educators, staff, administrators, parents, families and students have shown unwavering dedication and commitment to all these strategies producing amazing outcomes for our students. 2023 was truly a positive outlier demonstrating that all the new chances we took were effective and impactful.
Finally, after attending the many memorable and amazing graduations and moving-up ceremonies the last two weeks, I’d like to take the opportunity to say to all NR students: When you tap into your passion for learning, you are capable of producing work that impacts the world far beyond school. I have no doubt that you will achieve anything that you set your mind to. I wish you all the very best in the future, in your new grade, new schools and college.
As a reminder all schools are CLOSED Monday June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. When we return we will close out the final days of the school year, with the last official day being Friday, June 23.

NR Unified Teams
NR's Unified Teams first season was a GAME CHANGER!
2022-23 in North Rockland was a big year for expansion, launching new programs and inclusion and Athletics was no exception. Our community knows that sports here are so much more than just a game, they teach values such as fairness, team building, partnership, heart, equality, discipline, perseverance and respect.
Ensuring every student-athlete had the chance to experience being part of a team was a big dream made reality by the determination of our Athletics office, dedicated coaches, your NR Strong support and most importantly the eager Red Raiders. They made training and playing together a quick path to friendship and understanding.
The #REDANDWHITE experiences had on the court and across the lanes this Spring truly dug deeper. The fans in the stands, connections made, kind words from coaches, cheers for all and moments where our kids shined -- It's these NR Strong memories we'll share and hold on to forever.
6/19 - Juneteenth - All NRCSD Buildings CLOSED
Juneteenth
Please join us on Monday in honoring Juneteenth. We encourage everyone to use this day as a time to listen and to educate yourself by engaging in meaningful conversations with family, friends, and colleagues.
Originating in Galveston Texas in 1865, Juneteenth, short for June nineteenth, commemorates the day when federal troops arrived to alert enslaved people they were finally free. This long-overdue declaration was made over two-and-a-half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. Juneteenth is celebrated because it is the anniversary of the official end of enslavement in the United States.
While we are faced with new challenges every day, our top priority is and will remain to provide our students with the best education possible. As a district committed to equity, we take this opportunity to celebrate the freedom of all people and remind ourselves of the work that lies ahead.
