Attitude puts me in the right frame of mind for gratitude
If you know me, you know I use quotes and graphics to send positive messages. It’s a great visual reminder that we have much to celebrate - no matter the gloom and doom that some dwell on.
I believe it starts with attitude. With the right frame of mind, there are countless reasons to show gratitude.
Take the Emmett School District for example.
There are so many good things - too many to list here, but I’m going to focus on three that make a huge difference in the education of our students.
The Community! Where would we be without our endless network of people who share their time, treasures and talent? People who volunteer in the classrooms, school organizations and booster clubs to support extra-curricular activities.
People who share their expertise beyond what our staff can provide extends the learning beyond the classroom. The mentors who give our seniors a tremendous amount of time and energy to help them learn a new skill or explore a career before graduation.
The Emmett School District Staff! We are very fortunate to employ people who are invested in our community and our students and their futures. From the bus driver who greets students in the morning to the teacher who says goodbye to students at the end of each learning day, I am grateful for the care and positive attitudes our employees role model for our students.
Like I said, I believe that it starts with gratitude. We’ve put a lot of time and effort into professional development to improve education. We want to continue to aim for better and our staff has embraced this concept. I appreciate that - beyond the words expressed here.
The Health of our Students! Two years ago, we were starting to hear about the coronavirus. It seemed worlds away, and certainly nothing that would affect our lives here in Emmett. Fast forward a few months, it truly changed the way we educated students. Through this climate we have shown resilience, strength and flexibility to adapt.
With the exception of a couple of months, our students have been in the classroom for face-to-face learning. Yes, it’s been a bit risky, challenging and sometimes political. Balance has been key and it makes all the difference when we approach it with a can-do attitude.
It’s that same mindset that I use to confront any challenge -- anytime -- because attitude truly makes all the difference in the world -- not just in November as we count our blessings.

Emmett students receive meaningful "agendas" to GEAR UP
Students at EHS once again received agendas. The State Department of Education has 10 Core Competencies for measuring student readiness for their future after graduation. At our GEAR UP spring meeting, all GEAR UP Coordinators in Idaho were encouraged to adopt these into program plans at high schools.
More than 250 hours were spent this summer designing a useful student agenda to meet all 10 competencies, GEAR UP activity types and student engagement opportunities. The agenda makes it easy to measure and track student accomplishments in those areas.
The EHS Website goes into more detail on each Competency & Activity Type and how it will be measured throughout the year to benefit students. Please see the Student Agenda page on the website for details.

For questions on the agenda, please contact our GEAR UP Grant Coordinator, Kaloni Jensen
Even though the Agenda was designed as part of the GEAR UP program at EHS, Student Agendas were handed out to all students this year. That's because Valor Health sponsored the agenda so it could be in the hands of every Emmett High School student. Staci Carr, center with mask, from Valor Health came to EHS for the delivery of the agendas and she is pictured here with the EHS Student Council.

Congratulations to our newly elected district board members
Three of eight candidates, were elected earlier this month for the three vacants seats on the Emmett School’s District’s Board of Trustees.
Incumbent Ronnie Weeks was re-elected and Janet Hines and Terry Jones were also elected.
They will be sworn into office at our January board meeting scheduled for January 10th. Trustees Ross Walker and Zach Higgins will be stepping down.
We appreciate all those who stepped up as candidates and all those who took time to vote.

Have you seen our 'super' Calendar?
We also have a comprehensive Super School District Calendar with the hope we can include all the critical dates and Emmett High School activities. It is located at the bottom of each school website or link to it here.
