MESSAGE FROM THE CCS ADMINISTRATION
Dear CCS Families, Caregivers and Charlotte Community,
While the list of special events and celebrations that happened this week is extensive, we need to keep reminding ourselves that we are only twelve days into the school year.
- The CCS library opened to staff and students on Monday. Books were out for eager readers to browse and check-out.
- International Dot Day is a celebration based on the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. What started as a K-4 theme quickly spread to all of CCS with students collecting dots of all colors from teachers around the building.
- The sixth grade took a science walk on Pease Mountain with the support of some family volunteers. This hike was an engaging opportunity for students to have hands-on learning about trees.
- Kindergarten students were practicing “Three-step directions” as they created shape art coloring, cutting and pasting. These shapes quickly became the outlines for rockets, pumpkins, unicorns and birds. It was inspiring hearing these young learners identifying shapes they see in their world.
- Eighth grade students presented their “Dream Schools” to classmates. Ideas were very creative!
Educators are continuing to build routines, reinforce successes and let each member of their classroom shine for their strengths and passions. Our goal is to slow down and get to know the humans we will be learning and growing with this year. Check here for a peek inside the happenings at CCS this week
On Tuesday, CCS welcomed 13 UVM student teachers who will be working in classrooms grades 1st - 6th. These future educators are completing a practicum course designed to provide UVM students with opportunities to observe mentor teachers and to apply the knowledge, skills, strategies they are learning in their UVM courses. We are excited to host these wonderful student teachers and feel privileged to support future educators entering the field. They will be with us at CCS on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-3pm.
We hope this beautiful fall weather encourages your family to get outdoors and enjoy all that Vermont has to offer this time of year.
Kind regards,
Jen, Amanda and Beth

SCHOOL LIBRARY NEWS
The library is officially open! We are so excited to welcome staff and students back. In addition to weekly scheduled K-4 classes, middle schoolers have already visited or are scheduled to visit next week to browse for new books.
Help out the Charlotte Public Library!
If your 2nd or 3rd grader borrowed books from the Charlotte Public Library on their awesome field trip to get library cards last spring, please take a look around for any public library books that might need to be returned. There are book drops located in the public library parking lot and at Spear's Corner Store. Thank you!
FIRST LEGO LEAGUE CHALLENGE
CCS is looking for 4th-8th graders to participate in our FIRST LEGO League Challenge!
FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children in grades 4-8 through fun, exciting hands-on learning. FIRST LEGO League participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together. In FIRST LEGO League, students engage in hands-on STEM experiences, building confidence, growing their knowledge, and developing habits of learning.
Mr. Holcomb will be coaching FIRST LEGO League starting on September 21. The team will meet and practice on some Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00 until 4:30, with the season culminating in a qualifying competition on December 2nd and a statewide competition on Saturday January 20, 2024!
We are only allowed 20 spots so please email Mr. Holcomb, tholcomb@cvsdvt.org, as soon as possible! We understand many students are involved in Fall Sports and will allow flexibility until that season wraps up.

We will meet virtually for the first Town Hall on Wednesday, September 20 at 6:30 pm. At that time, we will provide an overview of this year's Town Hall topics. We will also answer questions about the DEI work that is underway in the district. Future DEI Town Halls will take place in November, January, March, and May. Those will be in-person Town Halls with a specific focus. The Zoom information for the September 20th Town Hall is posted on the district's website calendar and on the CVSD DEI website. We look forward to continuing the conversation!
On alternate months, (October, December, February, & April), the CVSD Virtual Town Halls will focus on the Strategic Plan and Growth & Belonging.
SURVEY COMING SOON!
Dear CVSD Families and Caregivers,
Our district values your feedback! Starting on September 22 and continuing through October 9, we will be asking you to take a brief survey to tell us about your experience with the school(s) your child attends. To ensure we continue to provide high-quality learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college and career, we need your feedback. We invite you to share your thoughts.
We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us using Let's Talk.
Thank you,
Champlain Valley School District
