Week In Review and a Look Ahead: Friday, February 2, 2024
Principal's Message
Friday proved to be an exciting day at MSE as we lost segments of power in our building this afternoon. At approximately 11AM, a transformer blew outside of the school. We have various lines that power our building and most of our building retained power after this occurred. We relocated about three interior classes to exterior classrooms that were empty for the period and used the natural light from outside to continue with our learning. Our cafeteria was able to continue to provide all lunch options, but we switched to paper products as our dishwasher no longer worked. At approximately 12:35PM, we lost all of our power for about 25 minutes as Met Ed shut down our power and fixed the issue. Again, we moved most of our dark classrooms to other locations and were able to continue with our classes. Around 1:00PM, all electricity was restored for the remainder of the day and we finished the day without issue.
I would like to commend our students and staff members on their ability to remain calm, change direction, and keep operations running smoothly. While this was a minor inconvenience to our day, it was a good opportunity to remember the good fortune that we have compared to other schools regarding our overall facilities and maintenance support, flexible and supportive staff members, but most importantly, well-behaved students that are the biggest part in making MSE a great place to be.
We closed out our "dance" season last week with our final dance of the year. Many thanks are warranted for our Student Council students for their time and efforts in planning and preparing for the dance, Mr. Hartenstine, for spinning the tunes, and Miss Young for the many hours of work she puts in organizing these fun and safe events!
We are excited about Hoops for Hearts coming up this Friday as well as Bear-A-Thon in March. We hope that many of our students join us for this fun and worthwhile events.
Hoops for Hearts
On Friday, February 9th, the HTE club will host the annual Hoops for Hearts student tournament and faculty basketball game. In order for students to get involved they must complete their registration. Player registration ends on Tuesday, 2/6 and spectators will need to register to attend Friday’s event. This runs through 2/8. Spectator permission slips are available through Mr. Burks and Mr. Kennedy. All students interested in attending, should complete their registration in the lobby area in the morning. They should bring their $5, permission slip, and student ID to register.
At the conclusion of this event, students should be picked up at the usual locations for after school events that we have been following all year. For those who are carpooling and are mixed grade level, please meet in the location of the grade level car "owner." For siblings in mixed grades, meet at the oldest student's grade location:
6th Grade- Back of the building (bus loop)
7th Grade- Tennis Court parking lot
