Construction on the Mount Streets
As you may have noticed, construction has begun on Mt. Everest Drive. Please drive carefully and allot extra time for drop off/pick up.
ACE Hardware Round Up
Ace Hardware (Clairemont Town Square) change round up to benefit Mt. Everest Academy garden, chickens, and nutritional science programming!
Our school will be the recipients of the Ace Hardware change round up for the month of September.
This means that anytime any customer purchases anything in the store, they will be asked to round up their change, and all of that will be given to the Mt. Everest Academy Foundation at the end of September. This store is a local and independently owned location, and has always supported local schools. Encourage friends and family to shop there all through September and round up your change! It adds up quickly.
Charleston Wrap
Help ASB with a schoolwide fundraising campaign this year that starts now. Your help is essential! Every Mt. Everest student can take part!
With the funds raised this year we can look forward to offering community events such as:
Fall Festival
Holiday Hoopla
Dances
Clubs
Academic League
Talent Show
But only if we can count on your participation!
Simply put, we’re asking you to reach out to your friends and family and encourage them to shop for products in our fundraising catalog or online. The proceeds of every purchase will make a BIG difference in our fundraising efforts this year. There’s a lot of great stuff in this year’s catalog; with over 2,500 great products you can be confident that everyone you know will find something they like. (This is not just wrapping paper, but nice, quality products.)
Our fundraising sales only last a few short weeks! So do these quick, easy things today and let’s get our momentum going!
Register your participant online by clicking here and enter our Organization ID 24500
Invite friends and family to shop and support! Send emails, share on social media, and text the fundraising link to your friends & family to quickly spread the word!
Look out for the Charleston Wrap fundraising information coming home this week!
Click here for an instruction letter that you can use to ensure you are registered properly for the fundraiser and that all of your purchases are linked to Mt. Everest Academy.
If you want to support MEA ASB and NOT give credit to an individual participant, please use link or QR Code.
Malala Fund
In our 8th-grade humanities classes, we're engrossed in 'I Am Malala' and gaining profound insights into diverse cultures and customs. It's become evident that countless girls around the world are denied access to a robust education. To address this, we're launching a fundraiser for the Malala Fund, with the aim of generating resources to offer a transformative educational experience to those less privileged than ourselves. We have another donor who has committed to matching the first $100 given. The donation drive will be running until October 15th.
Donate here to the Malala Fund
Pactful
Congratulations again to the FIREfly Health team for winning the international Pactful Design Thinking competition this year. A donation of $1,000 has been donated to Doctors Without Borders in their name.
This Week's Events
Pumpkin Patch
Calling all pumpkin fans! Join Ms. Shannon in the chicken garden (with our “perfectly imperfect” pumpkin patch) for a pumpkin harvest gathering!
This Tuesday, September 12 from 12-1:30, we will work to harvest and then clear the pumpkin vines. Gloves and garden shears will be provided, but we highly recommend wearing long sleeves as the vines are a bit prickly. Students or families who participate may take ONE pumpkin with them (per student/per family) to cure at home (ask Ms. Shannon for pumpkin curing tips or check out some google search info). This is a “harvest and work” event as the gardens need some TLC, and “many hands make light work.” All end-of-season pumpkin vines will be hauled to the green waste dumpsters at the side of the school. Any remaining pumpkins will be offered at our next MEA Farmstand event on a “donations appreciated” display.
All students welcome. K-5 students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Library Challenge
Don't miss your chance to enjoy some frozen yogurt us, the MEA Library! Through Sept.29th, take the Library Scavenger Hunt and win a prize when you complete the challenge 😊 Yogurtland is only two blocks away from school!!

SWEAR Committee - Mental Health Awareness in SDUSD
San Diego Unified School District’s Student Wellness Education and Resources Committee (SWEAR) is looking for two driven students, in grades 8-12, who are passionate about mental health to become representatives on our Committee. Our mission is to empower and connect youth advocates for student wellness by supporting mental health campaigns at every SDUSD high school, incorporating mental health education into the curriculum, and increasing access to resources. We aim to bridge the gap between schools in an effort to create a more standardized system of addressing mental health issues districtwide. This is an incredible opportunity, not just for the students chosen, but for the school; SWEAR representatives have testified to the Board of Education (unanimously passing the Mental Health Resolution on 1/27/21), launched district-wide social media campaigns to destigmatize the conversation on mental health, improved school policies to accommodate student well-being, established wellness centers, and facilitated in creating a much-needed dialogue between teachers and students.
Students who are interested must fill out this application by Friday, September 22nd: https://forms.gle/xRym8Yn2492syFTH9.
