We honor and celebrate the rich contributions, achievements, and resilience of the Black community during February. This month serves as a reminder to recognize and appreciate the remarkable individuals who have shaped history and continue to inspire us today.
Let's use this time to educate ourselves, engage in meaningful conversations, and celebrate the diversity that makes our society stronger. May Black History Month be a source of inspiration, unity, and progress!
Exciting furry additions were recently welcomed to the Horticulture and Animal Science Program at North Edgecombe High School, enriching hands-on learning experiences for students!
Superintendent Dr. Andy Bryan has completed his first round of meetings with members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council at all 5 high schools in the district. Together, we will shape the future of education with student-driven insights and collective vision. We cherish the valuable perspectives shared by our incredible students!
Princeville Elementary Principal Ms. Tenika Mercer, Martin Millennium Academy Principal Dr. Kelly Anne Mudd, and Stocks Elementary Principal Mr. Kristian Herring had an opportunity recently to share information about their schools at Princeville Head Start's parent meeting in an effort to support parents and guardians as they begin to make the big transition from Head Start to Kindergarten!
Students in the Electronics class at SouthWest Edgecombe High School recently created ultrasonic motion detectors. This class is made possible through our partnership with Edgecombe Community College.
Ms. Bower’s Art Class at G.W. Bulluck Elementary School reinforced classroom instruction by learning about the letter P, studying penguins and patterns! Miss Webb’s Kindergarten class made rainbow pattern backgrounds and then put together their penguins like a puzzle!
Multi-Classroom Leaders from schools across the district recently gathered for a day of learning and to practice their Cognitive Coaching skills, with a focus on effective questioning!
Mr. Parrish’s Electronics class at North Edgecombe High School is working to build their own electric guitars! Their next step is to sand down their guitars, then they will add paint and the electrical hardware.
Rolling into positivity with PBIS rewards! South Edgecombe Middle School students are had a blast at the Sky-View Skateland, celebrating positive behavior and teamwork!
A crew from WRAL visited Tarboro High School last week to cover the groundbreaking Evolv Express® Weapons Detection System recently implemented in our district.
The school district's commitment to student and staff safety is taking a giant leap forward with the Evolv Express® system. We are thrilled to showcase the collaborative efforts between our school district, law enforcement, and community partners to prioritize safety and well-being.
The Evolv Express® open-air kiosks use sensor technology to quickly identify dangerous items inside bags and pockets. The system scans as people walk through in real-time. These state-of-the-art systems are designed to provide an additional layer of security to make our learning environments even safer.

Members of the NC Symphony Orchestra visited G.W. Carver Elementary School recently. Mr. Dave Kilbride, violinist, shared beautiful music and information about being a musician. We are grateful for the NC Symphony and the Anonymous Trust/Simple Gifts Fund for making these opportunities possible for our students!
Martin Millennium Academy students and their families enjoyed the wonders of STEM at the school's recent STEM Night. Students engaged in hands-on experiments and activities, sparking curiosity and igniting passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics!
Students in Ms. Garrow's 6th grade class at West Edgecombe Middle School expanded their horizons through the reading of "Hidden Figures." In their engagement lab, students transported themselves to NASA Headquarters and solved various puzzles using their knowledge of binary code and reading passages.
School Safety Grant
Our school district has been awarded a significant School Safety Grant to enhance the security measures in our schools!
ECPS received $300,000 from North Carolina Department of Public Instruction's Center for Safe Schools to implement additional safety measures, update security infrastructure, enhance mental health support, and invest in training programs to ensure a secure learning environment for all.
This grant is a testament to our ongoing commitment to the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and everyone in our school community and will undoubtedly contribute to maintaining a positive and secure atmosphere where our students can thrive.
