FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Prayer of Catherine McAuley
My God, I am yours for time and eternity. Teach me to cast myself entirely into the arms of your loving Providence with the most lively, unlimited confidence in your compassionate, tender pity.
Grant me, O most merciful Redeemer, that whatever you ordain or permit may be acceptable to me. Take from my heart all painful anxiety; suffer nothing to sadden me but sin, nothing to delight me but the hope of coming to the possession of you, my God and my all, in your everlasting kingdom.
Amen.
Leaving Padbury Catholic in 2024?

please advise the office in writing before 1 November, 2023.
SunSmart
On Friday the 15 September, the P&F organised a SunSmart Education Talk that was given by Bradley Wilson-Clarke. Bradley spoke to the students and adults about the importance of being protected from the sun and particularly about the UV exposure. UV cannot be seen or felt. It is not like the sun’s light which we see, or the sun’s warmth (infrared radiation) which we feel. Our senses cannot detect UV so it can be damaging without us knowing. Being a SunSmart school, we are fortunate to have our own UV meter that we can check the readings on each day. You can also check the UV readings now on the SunSmart Global UV app that is free.
Mercy Week
Our Mercy Week events came to an end today with our successful Mercy Fete coordinated by our wonderful Year 6s and their teachers. We raised $3,081.00 which is a wonderful effort by all.
At our Mercy liturgy on Monday, our Year 3 Liturgical Choir led us reverently in prayer through their beautiful singing. During our liturgy we reflected on the life of Catherine McAuley, and her sisters and how they supported many people in their own community.
On Wednesday Sister Carmel Wringe the founding sister of our school, spoke to the students about how Mercy Works support others. We enjoyed an afternoon with our buddy classes and learnt more about the Sisters of Mercy. We would like to thank all our families for their support and to all our staff and students for making Mercy Week a memorable event.

Congratulations to all our amazing students on their outstanding efforts at our Edu Dance concerts last week. The excitement and buzz of both concerts was wonderful to see. It impresses me to see how in nine weeks students learn, rehearse and perform these fantastic routines. A big congratulations goes to Miss Green and Miss Brown for their energy and enthusiasm in teaching the students. A big thank you to Ms Capriotti for her tireless efforts in coordinating an event like this. Well done to everyone you should all be proud of yourselves.

CURRICULUM
Extension
What a busy term it has been! From our ICT competitions to researching and designing: Off Grid Living Homes, Marble Runs and Mars Rovers. Our students have been busy using templates to create infographics and story boards to tell “their story”. Critical and creative thinking along with generating ideas and possibilities has been a focus of all projects. We now work towards seeking solutions and putting ideas into action.
Our Robotics students are now at the finale! Their challenge is complete and has been recorded. Although problems were encountered along the way, with persistence and perseverance each group manage to find solutions and produce an outcome. Watching their EV3 Robots dance, parallel park, manoeuvre through an obstacle course, travel backwards, complete 360 degree and 180 degree turns and even sing and speak has been extremely entertaining. A very rewarding experience for all involved.
An exciting term has been had in our Maths Extension Program. Student have been engaged in investigations of plotting information and designing gids to show information. Many discussions around “directional language, use of axis, plotting and distance” have taken place. Some of our students have been introduced to a design app called Tinker cad and have successfully used this it to design their investigation and put it to work. A challenging feat. Well done to all involved.

Performing Arts
Term 3 has been an incredible time for the Performing Arts with lots of opportunities for the children to develop their confidence in performance and showcase their talents. The term began with the school musical, ‘Star Warts, The Umpire Strikes Back’, and we know that it was enjoyed by all who came to see it. The cast, backstage crew and teachers all had a wonderful time preparing the show and were sad when the lights went down on the closing night. However, there was plenty more to come to keep everyone busy.
The musical led straight into the solo performances and there were students from Years 4 – 6 who entered piano, violin, guitar, voice and drum sections. Preparations were also underway for the class entries with lots of rehearsals taking place. The Year 3 students performed reverently at St Benedict’s Church in the Liturgical Choir section and the Year 5 students performed their songs with confidence and style at the Vasto Club. The Year 4 classes performed at the RAC Arena in One Big Voice and had the huge task of learning more than ten songs, many with some complicated choreography. We were also very proud of the four students chosen to be comperes at the event.
Thank you to all the teachers who prepared the students, and the parents, friends and relatives who supported them.
Congratulations to all the students involved and particularly to those who received special awards from the adjudicators.
Excellence: Year 3 Liturgical Choir, Year 5 General Choir
Merit Awards:

Interschool Athletics Carnival
This week Padbury Catholic competed at the annual Interschool Athletics Carnival. Day 1 was held at St Marks School on Tuesday 19th September where the children competed in middle distance, jump and throw events. On day 1 we had 45 students compete from Year 3-6 and at the end of the days events, Padbury Catholic was placed in 4th position.
Day 2 was held on Wednesday 20th September at the WA Athletics Stadium in Claremont. Padbury Catholic took 54 enthusiastic athletes to this event. It is always such an exciting and fun day to be competing at such an impressive venue.
The children participated in sprints, novelty events and relays. Padbury Catholic produced some excellent individual and team efforts to finish 3rd in the overall points tally. The final scores were:
1st Peter Moyes 1271
2nd St Marks 1165
3rd Padbury Catholic 1048
4th Whitfords Catholic 872
5th St Stephens Carramar 857
6th St Stephens Duncraig 731
7th LJBC 675
Padbury also won the equality shield which is given to the school that performed the best when considering the school’s population.
I’m very proud of our school’s efforts this term. Congratulations to all those who participated. Thank you to Mr O’Mara and Mrs Williams for helping prepare the children and assisting on carnival day.
We are now looking forward to the holidays after such a crazy busy Term 3.

Padbury Catholic Netball Club
Padbury Catholic Primary School Netball Club (PCNC) just completed a successful Winter season at Wanneroo Districts Netball Association. PCNC entered 10 teams into the competition with two teams from each year level from year 2 to year 6. The coaches, volunteers and teams did the school and club proud with their efforts each week.
PCNC 1 & 2 Yr 6 had a solid winter season with PCNC 1 well earning their spot in the Grand Final last Saturday. Heading into the grand final with only 7 players (and support by PCNC 2), they faced an intense battle, that resulted in equal scores with 5 minutes to go. Our year 6’s put up a valiant fight, narrowly losing by 3 goals. The determination and teamwork displayed on Grand Final day was truly inspiring. They have all done themselves and PCNC proud.
