First Day of School
School Start & Dismissal Times
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, school starts at 8:10 a.m. and is dismissed at 3:15 p.m. On Wednesdays, school starts at 8:10 a.m. and is dismissed at 2:15 p.m.
4-Year-Old Preschool
The first day of classes for 4-year-old preschool is Tuesday, September 7. The morning session runs from 8:15 to 11 a.m., and the afternoon session is from 12:30 to 3:15 p.m.
Online Registration Begins July 20
Registration for the 2022-23 school year will take place online using JMC beginning Wednesday, July 20. If you do not have internet access, school staff will be available to assist you in the High School Commons from Noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, August 1, and Tuesday, August 2. Please have your student(s) registered no later than Friday, August 5.
New Families to Central Lyon
All new families should plan to register in person on Monday or Tuesday, August 1 or 2. If you know of a new family in our district, please forward this newsletter to them.
Online Registration Instructions
- From www.centrallyon.org, under Quicklinks, click on JMC Gradebook.
- Click on Family.
- Change the school year to 2022-23.
- Log in with your username (your last name) and the password that you set up. If this is the first time logging in, your password is also your last name.
- Click on the button labeled Register for 2022-2023.
- There will be a registration dashboard. Click each item to complete registration.
- To see if you qualify for Free and Reduced meals, click on Meal Application section during registration.
- All payments for fees are made in JMC. You may watch this short video to learn more about paying online https://youtu.be/appw1qmT_Oc. There is a flat fee of $3 per transaction under Tuition/Fees and Lunch. If you prefer, a check may be mailed to: Registration, Central Lyon CSD, 1010 S. Greene St., Rock Rapids, IA 51246

Physical/ Concussion
All athletes and cheerleaders in grades 7-12 are required to submit an Athletic Physical as well as a Concussion form PRIOR to the first day of practice. Both forms are available on the school website, under Health & Wellness > Forms/Requirements.
Backpack Program
This is a special program that requires the return of the permission slip linked on the Central Lyon website under Parent Info > School Meals. A new form must be completed and turned in each school year.

Passes Cover Athletics & Activities
Athletic and Activity Passes for the 2022-23 school year will continue to cover admission to ALL EVENTS sponsored by Central Lyon, with the exception of state competitions.
Activity tickets are required for students in grades 7-12 who participate in co-curricular activities, and optional for other students. A student athletic and activity pass allows the student admission to all activities sponsored by Central Lyon, with the exception of state competitions.
Central Lyon also offers a family activity ticket option. The family ticket will cover two parents and all children in grades TK-6 for a cost of $200. The family ticket does not cover students in grades 7-12. Please note: Family Athletic & Activity Passes do not qualify for the free or reduced fee program.

All Siouxland Conference athletics and activities will charge $6 for single admission, including district football.
Student Immunization, Screenings & Health Form Requirements
The State of Iowa requires all students going to school in Iowa to have a Certificate of Immunization, a Provisional Certificate of Immunization, or a Certificate of Immunization Exemption at the beginning of the school year. Read on for specific requirements pertaining to grades and health conditions. All required forms can be found on Central Lyon’s website > Health & Wellness > Forms/Requirements.
Health Requirements for School
- Kindergarten — dental screening, vision screening, and the following immunizations: 5 doses of DTap, 4 doses of Polio, 2 doses of MMR, 3 doses of Hepatitis B, and 2 doses of Varicella, or a valid exemption certificate
- 3rd Grade — vision screening
- 7th Grade — the following immunizations: 1 dose Tdap and 1 dose Meningitis
- 9th Grade — dental Screening
- 12th Grade — the following immunizations: 2 doses of Meningitis
Requirements for Students with Chronic Health Conditions
- A Medication Authorization Form is required if your child will be taking medication at school.
- An Asthma Action Plan and the Medication Authorization Form are required for children with asthma.
- If your child will be carrying their inhaler with them throughout the school day, the Authorization to Carry Inhaler is also required.
- A Diet Modification Form is required for students with a food allergy that requires modification for school meals.
- Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Emergency Care Plan is for students with food allergies or other allergies that may cause an anaphylactic reaction.
- The Diabetes Medical Management Plan is required for students with diabetes.
- A Seizure Action Plan is required for students with epilepsy or other seizure disorder.

PLEASE NOTE: Students will not be able to attend school without meeting the immunization requirements and will not be allowed to participate in any school-related activities.
