PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION LAUNCHES NEW FAMILY MATCH PROGRAM
During the Spring semester, Leland’s newly established Parent Teacher Organization conducted an extensive due diligence process that included a community survey. Numerous survey participants suggested that a PTO could help welcome new families to Leland Public School. As a direct result of the suggestion, your PTO is thrilled to announce that it has launched a New Family Match Program, developed by Membership Chair Emily LaDrig and Program Coordinator Julie Yoffy. If you are one of Leland’s 19 new families and wish to be matched with a current family, or you are an existing family that wishes to contribute to your school community by welcoming a match family, please send an email to julieyoffy@yahoo.com. This is a great way for existing families to get involved, give back, and—most importantly—serve as a resource and connection for our fabulous incoming families. Have questions about something else the school’s PTO is working on or wish to get involved? Fill out this membership form and save Monday, September 18th at 6pm for the first member meeting of the new school year.
The 2022-2023 Leland Yearbooks have arrived!
The Leland Yearbooks are available for purchase for $20 during advisory and lunch starting this Friday, September 8th. If you are interested in purchasing a yearbook, there is only a limited time to secure one of these keepsakes. We hope that you take advantage of this opportunity to purchase a yearbook which will help you remember your high school years forever! Please email Mr. Knudsen (rknudsen@leland school.com) with any questions!
All students grades 6/7 are scheduled to be at Camp Henry next week Wednesday, Sept 13 to Friday the 15th.
The newly formed World Learning Club is currently supporting two international study opportunities for Leland Students!
World Learning Club is a Leland Public School-endorsed club formed in 2023 to help organize support and fundraising for extended learning opportunities for Leland students grades K-12. The club seeks to provide experiences in and out of the classroom, across the county, state, country and world to enrich the lives of Leland Public School students, staff, and community.
Today's world is one of increasingly complex interdependencies. The WLC exists to provide students with opportunities for direct cross-cultural experience. The purpose is to help students strengthen transnational relationships while helping them develop the skills necessary to be successful in an ever changing world. The health of our planet and each individual depends on the skills of today’s students - their ability to work together and their willingness to learn from one another.
The WLC pursues, designs, and supports world-based educational initiatives for Leland students K-12 to increase personal development and world stewardship. We seek partners in this work.

New School Wellness Program supported by Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department
"This fall, the Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department is expanding their partnership with Leland Public School to implement a School Wellness Program (SWP). The SWP provides a full-time nurse and a full-time mental health therapist to meet the health needs of students.
The mental health therapist provides on-site, confidential therapeutic counseling, just as students could receive from a private therapist outside of school. Availability of therapy in school offers an important health care service while minimizing the loss of academic time for the student and work time for parents. Health insurance will be billed for services, as appropriate, but there will be no out-of-pocket costs for any student receiving services."
