MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
Mount Vernon High School held a full week of activities to close out Mental Health Awareness Month. Students and staff had access to many resources that could help with their mental health including yoga, therapeutic drumming, and a visit from the Mount Vernon Police Department’s Wellness Division. The Mount Vernon City School District is always taking steps to ensure we are caring for our scholars' mental well-being. Mental health initiatives like this help our students feel safer and allow them to focus on their academics.
Cecil H. Parker School’s college and career day brought out the best of our community to show children the number of options they have available to them. The Mount Vernon Fire Department, Department of Public Works, and police officers attended and gave great demonstrations that inspired the students.
The Mount Vernon Police Department’s Wellness Division also visited Nelson Mandela/Dr. Hosea Zollicoffer School and Graham School last week. They discussed the warning signs of mental illnesses and explained what students should do if they or their friends are showing those signs. Thank you for all the work the men and women from the Police Department do, as we appreciate you coming to our schools and helping the children.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
