6th Grade Update
Math 6
Currently, we are working through Chapter 2. Students are working on finding the area of irregular shapes, reading different data displays, using generic rectangles to multiply, and long division to divide. This week students will receive their Chapter 2 study guide in preparation for our Chapter 2 test coming up the week of October 9th. Keep an eye out for that!
ACE 6/7
Students assessed over unit 2, which covered probability, equivalent fractions, long division, & multiple representations of portions. Ask them to show you their unit 2 assessment, which comes home today. I always encourage them to do corrections, ask questions, and learn from their mistakes.
ELA
Over the next couple weeks, students will use a variety of mediums to dig deeper into motif and theme. Students are encouraged to continue reading in their free choice book daily. Additionally, students will continue to work on their personal narratives. The lead (beginning) will be graded using a rubric given in class. Students are also continuing to review parts of speech.
ACE ELA
Our first mini book club will begin this week. Clubs will determine how they want to work through this (choosing books by the same author or theme, or books written in a similar format or that are part of a series). Discussion tips as well as noticing patterns within texts will be the focus. Additionally, students will continue working on their personal narratives. The lead (beginning) will be graded first based on the rubric given. Using higher level punctuation will also be introduced this week.
Science
How do the particles of matter behave in each state of matter and while undergoing changes? What causes them to change? Our upcoming focus in science is on particle movement, particle speed, and attraction between particles.
Social Studies
Students have been working to learn components of Hispanic Culture to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. We are beginning to take a look at the field of archeology and how it impacts our lives today by teaching us yesterday.
7th Grade Update
Ace 7/8 students are studying patterns and the relationships between graphs, tables and rules. The connections we make will help us with our study of linear relationships.
Book Signature News: Today starts the new cycle for book signatures.
7th Science: Students are looking at compounds vs. mixtures. Today and tomorrow they will explore how to break a compound apart through a lab demonstration, Elephant Toothpaste.
8th Grade Update
- Just a reminder that it is a school wide expectation that Chromebooks be charged and ready for the day. Please check in with your student that they are meeting this expectation.
Computer games are NOT allowed during Gold period/study hall and may be the culprit if your student’s Chromebook is running out of battery during the day.
FYI: Guardians are emailed a weekly report of student computer usage.
