June 2 Newsletter
Friday, June 2
In my recent newsletters, I have shared the accomplishments of our students and staff in our classrooms and school buildings. This included performing and creative arts, sporting events, academic competitions, awards, and scholarships. This week I want to highlight our student’s character, mentorship, and leadership. Our students are role models in our community and our district. I am proud of the Purple Knight legacy that begins with our wonderful families and continues to thrive in our elementary, middle, and high schools.
Hackett Elementary honors dozens of students monthly for their Character Traits of leadership, respect, cooperation, courage, honesty, empathy, and creativity.
Our intermediate and high school students provide mentorship and tutoring in all our elementary schools in reading, math, social studies, and science.
Todd Elementary’s 3rd-grade Safety Patrol program awarded several students with Safety Patrol Student of the Month recognition for their leadership, kindness, responsibility, and mentorship.
Fruzen Intermediate hosts monthly Falcon of the Month awards to honor the positive character traits of their students and staff. Nominations for this award are made by students and staff.
During Memorial Day weekend, our Junior JROTC assisted in placing flags along White Avenue and Eastlawn Cemetery and placed more than 900 flags at Veteran’s gravesites at Oakwood Cemetery.
Robinson Elementary celebrates High Five Fridays during drop-off time. This is how the staff greets everyone and lets them know, “we are glad you are here.” It is a positive way to start the school day!
Transition Services students participated in Job Olympics at UW-Whitewater and earned medals for their tenacity, perseverance, character, and skills.
McNeel Intermediate students visited Hackett Elementary classrooms and jointly made goodie bags for local firefighters and police officers. They also led interactive reading activities.
Our AP Calculus BC students designed a 45-minute lesson to teach mathematical concepts to 3rd grade classes at Hackett and 4th grade classes at Cunningham. As part of their project, students researched the Wisconsin state standards for mathematics at various grade levels to ensure their lesson met the needs and expectations of our students.
I also want to take an opportunity to share with you staff accomplishments from this past week. Ms. Sonja Bagley and Ms. Heather Albrecht, two of our Occupational Therapists, were recognized by the State of Wisconsin Council for Administrators of Special Services for their passion and drive for providing therapy to our students. Ms. Deb Prowse represented our district along with representatives of the Craftsman with Character program in a panel discussion with Milwaukee business leaders and educators. She was able to share and celebrate our district and student success stories.
