This is a summary of the Pasco School District Board Meeting on July 25, 2023.

Our new student board representatives were sworn in during the Board meeting. PSD is proud to welcome the following students to the Board:

• Kimberly Joya Manzanarez, senior at Pasco High School

• Samantha Quiroga, senior at Chiawana High School

• Meia Ng, senior at Chiawana High School

Congratulations, students!

During a study session, Superintendent Michelle Whitney offered options for annual objectives for the Board’s consideration as required by Policy 1630 Evaluation of the Superintendent: Annual Objectives.

As next steps, the Superintendent will develop a recommendation for 2023-2024 Annual Objectives for presentation and the Board's consideration during the August 8 board meeting.

Michelle Whitney, PSD’s Superintendent, presented board members with the opportunity to complete the Washington State School Directors' Association (WSSDA) Board of Distinction Application.

Applying for the recognition qualifies boards to be considered for:

• Board of the Year: highest rated board among the applications

• Board of Distinction: boards that show evidence of applying the Washington School Board Standards

• Special Merit Award: awarded to honor boards that have demonstrated a continued focus and breath of alignment to the Washington School Board Standards. It is given to boards that have received five Board of Distinction awards.

PSD’s board members confirmed they will apply by the September 15 deadline.

Kevin Hebdon, Executive Director of Fiscal Services, presented a report on the continuation of the budget preparation process. The report included an update on General Fund budget assumptions, near final 2023-24 revenue and expenditure amounts for each of the five funds, and the multi-year forecasts for each of the five funds.

Next steps include advertising the Public Hearing and Budget Adoption for two weeks leading up to the August 8, 2023 board meeting. During that meeting, staff will likely seek board approval of the 2023-24 budgets and multi-year forecasts for each of the five funds maintained by the district. The last opportunity to adopt the budget will be during the August 22, 2023 board meeting.
