Orange Unified School District continues to strive for high overall student attendance rates. Student attendance has a profound impact on student success, funding, and resources. Our theme is "We Champion Attendance." Let's all work together to keep our students in school, attending their classes, and working towards their educational, career, and life goals!

Spartans Host Fall Sports Assembly
Written By: Alex Tran
On September 1st, Villa Park High School held our seasonal fall sports assembly. During 2nd period in our gym, fall-season sports dazzled their classmates with the dance skills taught to them by Villa Park’s dance team. While the assembly is recreational, there's no doubt that there are certain competitive elements. In fact, all fall sports teams compete for a "Best Dance Award" judged by a panel of three teachers; this year’s winner is girls volleyball and cross country. Sports assemblies, especially in the fall, are Spartan traditions celebrated by many. It’s a wholesome moment where all students come together and center around sports and community.

Introduction Of Our Student Board Member
Yesterday night, our Student Board Member, Alexander Tran, had the opportunity to represent Villa Park High School at the Orange Unified School Board of Education’s meeting. His attendance, along with that of four other student representatives from Orange Unified High Schools, is exemplary of student leadership and empowerment. Alexander is a junior and hopes to maximize this experience in hopes of learning more about our political systems. Student Board Members are either appointed or elected by their high school’s Associated Student Body and attend the Board of Education’s monthly meetings, among other community events.
Meet the Staff
Jessica Ringler-Math Teacher
Written by Marianna Mendoza
Jessica Ringler is a mathematics teacher here at Villa Park High School. Raised in Michigan, Mrs. Ringler attended Western Michigan University and majored in mathematics. Teaching at Villa Park High School was, in fact, Mr. Ringler’s first teaching job ever. Since then, her ties to the student community here are as strong as back home, and for two years she served as an ASB advisor. In her free time, Mrs. Ringler enjoys traveling and raising her two-year-old son. Her favorite moments at Villa Park are working and joking around with her students, forming life-long memories.
Shari Scott-Sawyer-Activities Director
Written by: Marianna Mendoza
Here at Villa Park High School, we take great pride in our staff and faculty. Our Activities Director, Shari-Scott Sawyer, is by no means an exception. Throughout her 2 years here, Mrs. "S", dubbed by her ASB students, has greatly contributed to the Spartan spirit. Graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park, Mrs. S found her passions in both health, activities and education. When combining these interests, Mrs. S became a high school Health Teacher and Activities Director. Her love for education extends well beyond the classroom and into the physical world by teaching Zumba. During her time here, Mrs. S’s favorite experience has been helping her ASB students grow and mature into the leaders that they are.

Student Newsletter Team
Meet Alex Tran
Greetings! My name is Alexander Tran, and I’m super excited to be this year’s student coordinator for our weekly Spartan Newsletter. If you’re not familiar, I had the opportunity to work alongside Mrs. Scott-Sawyer and Mr. Pongco on last year’s newsletter publication. Learning from those experiences, I’m proud to spearhead Villa Park’s first student-led editorial team. If you’d like to know me better, you're not missing out on too much. Besides being in the 11th grade, I’m currently the Student Board Member for Villa Park High School and am fairly active with Interact Club and Model United Nations. In regards to my career and academic interests, working in a legal or policy-oriented job would be ideal. After high school, I’d like to attend college somewhere on the East Coast; Dartmouth or Georgetown would be cool, and in the case that I graduate, followed by law school. In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis, reading, and listening to music while going on walks. Not to mention, I also love learning new vocab and expanding my lexicon; my favorite word: fiduciary. Just like the fiduciary
duty I have to you, the reader.
Meet Trinity Laurenson-Aumua
Hi! I’m Trinity Laurenson-Aumua and I’m this year’s ASB Commissioner of Community Relations. This is my first year with ASB, and I’m thrilled to write for our school’s newsletter. In addition to ASB, I play for the school’s Freshman/Sophomore Volleyball Team. After highschool, I’d love to attend my dream college, UCI, including their highly-regarded medical program. Working in the medical field, more specifically being a pediatrician or pediatric nurse, is a definite passion of mine. When I’m free, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, listening to music, and watching sports with my dad. With this, some fun facts about me: I love to play the guitar, I’m deeply rooted with my Samoan culture, and I love baking with my mom.
Meet Marianna Mendoza
Hi! My name is Marianna Mendoza, or you can call me Mari, I am a senior currently serving on ASB as commissioner of community relations, Spanish Club as vice president, and a proud member of Key Club. Through involving myself I've had the chance to engage in various community service activities, contributing to causes close to my heart. And especially serving as the Commissioner of Community Relations in ASB has been a remarkable journey, allowing me to bridge connections between our school and the wider community. Beyond my extracurricular commitments, I am passionate about forensic psychology and aspire to pursue the rest of my academic career at University of California, Irvine (UCI). More so, I’m an avid reader, diving into various genres, currently Almond by Sohn Won-pyun and Tell Me How to Be by Neel Patel are my favorite books! Reading has always been a safe place for me and gives me the opportunity to explore different perspectives. I’m also an avid painter, I find it as an outlet for creativity and it gives me a peace of mind. I have many apriation for this school year, but most importantly I hope to further engage with my community and create a space in which all students get more involved!
