Miller Elementary Summer Update

Hello Miller Families!

I'm excitedly reaching out to welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year! I hope your summer was filled with many fond memories and you are continuing to soak up these final warm summer days! I'm sure you are also preparing for a big transition to have your child return back to school and or this may be their first year coming to Miller Elementary! We couldn't be more excited to kick things off and say HELLO!

We have been busy finalizing class lists and will be sending out teacher placement letters via a Final Forms message on Friday, August 4th between 11:00 AM -12:00 PM. If you do not receive an update, please reach out to the Miller office next week. This is also a reminder to check all information in Final Forms to ensure your email and contact information is up to date.

You will notice that we added an upcoming Popsicles on the Playground gathering next Monday 8/7 from 3:00-4:00 for all our preschool and kindergarten families. This will take place on the LEIGHTON PLAYGROUND due to ongoing construction at Miller.

I have included the preschool and kindergarten supply lists once again as I'm sure you are busy shopping for back-to-school items! Please note that the kindergarten supply list has been reduced since our Spring Kick-Off to Kindergarten meeting.

If you have passed by Miller Elementary, our new modular classrooms have arrived and are being prepped to be placed on the corner of our fenced playground. Due to this construction and the safety of our children and families, we are not going to be opening the Miller playground until the start of the school year.

We will be moving our popsicles on the playground gathering to LEIGHTON ELEMENTARY for Monday, August 7th from 3:00-4:00. We're hoping to see our preschool and kindergartners before we kick off the school year! See you soon!

Our transportation department sent out important busing information last week. Please see the link below to look up your child's busing information if you have not done so already.

You will also find the directions to download the My Stop Bus App so you can follow your child's bus to have a better idea of the pick-up and arrival time. Please know that busing runs slower at the beginning of the year as we get to know all the children on our buses, and their bus stop locations to ensure a smooth transition from home-to-school.

As a reminder, an adult MUST accompany all kindergarten children at the bus stop at pick-up and drop-off times. We will not release kindergarteners from our buses without connecting them with an adult. If an adult isn't present, a child will remain on our buses while we try to contact any family members or emergency contact names.

Please save the date for our Preschool and Kindergarten Meet and Greet!

Our Preschool and Kindergarten Meet and Greet will be held on Tuesday, August 15th from 3:00 - 5:00 PM. During this time, you and your child will get to visit Miller Elementary, meet their teacher, and walk the school building and classrooms to be ready for our first day. We ask that you bring your child's school supplies to our Meet and Greet so their book bag isn’t too heavy on the first days of school.

To help with parking and traffic flow in the building, we encourage all students with last names beginning with the letters A-L to come between 3:00-4:00 and those with last names beginning with M-Z to attend 4:00-5:00. We are excited to spend this time with you and your child!

The Aurora City School District uses Final Forms to complete necessary back-to-school paperwork. Final Forms saves data from year-to-year so that you will never need to enter the same information twice. Final Forms also pre-populates information wherever possible, for each of your students, saving you time if you have multiple children in the district. If at any time a phone number, email address, or contact information changes, we will get a notification that a change has been made so please make updates whenever necessary. Also, if you see a field in red, you will need to make necessary updates in the system.

We have many families who have accessed Final Forms and have completed the necessary paperwork. This is one thing you can do now before the hustle and bustle of the beginning of the year! If you are having difficulty with Final Forms, we will be reaching out to families in August when we return to the office.

During school hours, some children require the administration of medication (both over-the-counter or prescription). In order for our school nurse to administer any medication, we must have a signed doctor's note on file.

It is important that any child who will need us to administer or store a rescue medication has this form completed. Since it can take some time to get these from a doctor's office, please print the attached form (found below) and have this completed at your earliest convenience. This will help when we reach out to families in the coming weeks to discuss any medical needs for your child.

Additionally, we will collect any immunization and medical forms from families at our upcoming Meet and Greet on Tuesday, August 15th.

Miller Elementary is currently accepting names of families who would be interested in having their child be a part of our integrated preschool program for 2023-2024 as a role model peer. In addition, if you know of any families who might be interested in their child being a part of our preschool program, please feel free to pass this message along!

We have attached the preschool waiting list form below so we can collect the names of all interested families. We will be reaching out to families in August when we host our screening days. Children must be 3 years of age and potty trained by August 1st, 2023, have clear communication skills, and demonstrate age-expected social and emotional skills to be considered as a peer for our integrated program. One way you can become involved with our schools is to join our Aurora Elementary PTO. This wonderful organization supports our schools to provide rich and meaningful activities and events. You will be receiving more information from our PTO as the school year begins, but you can start by viewing their website and becoming a member!
