Dragon News
Findley Elementary School
October 22, 2021
Message from the Principal
Greetings Findley Families,
I hope everyone is enjoying the extra two days with your kiddos this week. This week's newsletter contains lots of important information. Including updates on our weekly COVID testing through OHSU. But first, a quick message from me.
What an amazing Dragon Dash we had. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you! Your generosity and support for our school community has never been more apparent. We are truly grateful for you.
As we are entering the cold, wet months, please be sure you are sending your Dragons to school properly outfitted for the weather. At this time, I have no plans to move lunch indoors. However, as we approach winter, the time may come when we will make the move. In the meantime, bundle up!
Lastly, thank you, for helping us keep our students and staff safe by following our arrival and dismissal procedures (some important reminders below!). We really appreciate your help with keeping us all safe!
Have a great weekend,
Sherry Marsh, Ed.D.
Principal
Meet Our Behavoir Health & Wellness Team
At Findley we are excited to announce and have you meet our Behavioral Health and Wellness Team. This team is a multi-disciplinary school based team that will receive referrals from staff or requests from parents and families regarding students in need of behavioral health and wellness supports in order to successfully engage in school. We are a team of 10 support staff who have experience working with students and families. We will profile 2 team members each week so you know who we are and the services we provide. You are welcome to reach out to any member of the team for support.
This week we’d like you to meet our Social Worker and Student Success Coach.
Student Success Coach
Hello Findley Families, My name is Susan Hargrave and I’m the Student Success Coach. I’ve been a member of the Findley staff for 15 years first as a classroom teacher and now as a coach. A big part of my job is to collaborate and support teachers and school communities in the implementation of social emotional learning (SEL). A large part of my job is facilitating the learning and practice of the core competencies of SEL (self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making, ) through collaboration, teaming and modeling. I truly believe that the impact of SEL on overall student achievement is as important as academic success.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need support. susan_hargrave@beaverton.k12.or.us
Social Worker
Hello Dear Families,
My name is Victoria Sharan and I am your new part-time school social worker. This is my third year with the BSD and I am beyond delighted to join the Findley family. I am a trained mental health professional with a Master of Social Work degree and a license to work in schools. My job is to connect parents to community-based services which support the mental health and wellbeing of the entire family. Some examples include making referrals to therapists, sharing resources for survivors of domestic violence, affordable legal support, and substance use treatment. I am also able to connect families to services for basic needs such as food, clothing, and utility assistance. Within the school I am able to provide brief mental health services in the form of short-term interventions for individual students and small groups. It is my pleasure to serve and collaborate with
each family in our community. Please feel free to contact me at any time or

After School Pickup
Thank you for entrusting your child with us.
We noticed recently that a number of families are parking in our Saltzman lot when picking up students.
Parents driving to the school to complete pickup need to enter the Thompson St. Parking Lot and wait in the pickup line or park and walk up to the pickup area. Being mindful of social distancing
This process is created for safety for our busses and families. Busses are the priority for the Saltzman parking lot between 2:45 and 3:15 each afternoon.
Cars parked in this lot will not be allowed to leave until the buses have left the property starting 10/27.
Please help us keep you and your student safe by picking up from the other lot.
Thank you
Findley Elementary

Passport Club
Dear Findley Passport Club members,
What a start to the virtual Passport Club!
We are so happy for all the Findley Dragons who are learning their way around the world! We hope that you enjoyed your rewards for last month.
We are now moving our way into the October countries, but it is still NOT too late to do September as well!
Here is a summary of the steps to get in on the fun with more detailed instructions below:
1. Download this month's maps (We are moving to October this month)
2. Visit this month's virtual classroom
3. Learn this month's maps
4. Take the quiz when you are ready
This is a whole new experience and we understand that there will be a lot of questions, learnings and changes as we navigate this new virtual Passport Club.
Please rest assured that we are dedicated to making this the best that we can under the circumstances and ask for your patience and understanding as we all go through this process together.
With that being said, let's have some fun and travel the world together!
In addition, here is a reminder in regards to Passport Club:
Passport Club is a volunteer-run geography enrichment program offered at Findley to 2nd – 5th grades. This is an optional program and is not mandatory.
- Please practice with your child for several minutes a day to help them get ready!
Grade Level Clarification:
- 2nd-4th grade students have the option of 5 levels of study to choose from. However, students are encouraged to learn all the items in each level up to grade level.
