Big Kahuna is delivering orders to campus on Tuesday, November 28th. Parents will need to plan on picking up packages from 1:00-4:00pm that day. Please plan on swinging by campus that day to pick up your orders from 1:00-4:00pm. We are not able to send orders home with students. Keep in mind that some items need to be refrigerated so pick-up should be timely!

Big Kahuna schedules the party bus, and once those plans are made, they will be communicated to students and families! We're still waiting on the dates!

I’m Paige Parks! I’m thrilled to be here at Shady Grove! I’ve been a nurse for 12 years! I’ve worked pediatrics, and geriatrics including hospice most of my career! This is my 3rd year with BCISD. I graduated from Burnet in 2006! I was born and raised here and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else! I have one daughter (Joelee) who is 4 and will be starting kindergarten here next year, and my husband is a Marble Falls firefighter!!! I can’t wait to get to know everyone and love on our Kiddos!

The early years of a child’s life are crucial for their holistic growth. This is a time when they are learning about the world around them and forming their beliefs and values. As such, it is important for parents to instill positive values in their young children. One of these is thankfulness.

Multiple studies have shown that learning gratitude at a young age has long-term benefits. First, thankfulness is linked to well-being. It can have long-lasting effects on mental health and behavior. Second, thankful children are more likely to have positive relationships that contribute to their happiness and sense of fulfillment. Finally, gratitude can help children achieve academic and social success.

It’s no wonder that gratitude education is a top priority for three out of every four parents, according to a 2021 poll conducted by the University of Michigan. However, four in five parents worry that children today are not grateful for what they have. If you’re a parent who wants to instill a spirit of gratitude in your children but doesn’t know where to start, here are a few tips:

Model thankfulness yourself

When it comes to raising grateful children, parents definitely play a pivotal role. After all, children are like sponges during the early years, soaking up everything they see and hear. If you model thankfulness and express appreciation regularly, your child will likely do the same.

Encourage your child to express thankfulness

Encourage your child to express thanks when they receive something nice from another person. This could be a gift or something as simple as an invitation to a playdate. Help them to verbalize their appreciation by saying something like, “It’s so wonderful that you got such a nice present from Grandma!” Or, “You must be so happy that your friend invited you to play today!”

Explain the importance of thankfulness

Talking about the benefits of being thankful will help your child understand them. For instance, you could say, “We are happier when we are thankful for what we have,” or “It’s nice to be thankful for our friends because it helps us maintain our friendships.” Your child will be more likely to practice being thankful if they understand its value.

Praise your child when they display thankfulness

When your child expresses thankfulness, be sure to commend them. This will reinforce the behavior and show them that it is something you appreciate. For example, you could say “I’m proud of you for thanking John when he gave you that toy” or “Good job on writing Aunt Mary a thank-you note—that was thoughtful of you.”

Use everyday opportunities to teach about thankfulness

Take advantage of any chance you have to teach your child gratitude. For example, you can have them help you with a chore and tell them how thankful you are for their help. Or you can have a conversation with them about a time when someone did something kind for you, such as when a stranger opened a door for you or a friend cooked you a delicious meal, and how that made you feel.

Helping your child develop a grateful heart will serve them well throughout their life. At Celebree School, our early childcare centers on the concept of community. And so, we believe that kids learning gratitude—appreciating even the little things in life and being considerate of others—is a big step towards developing a love for community.

As part of the superintendent search process, the Board of Trustees is committed to gathering the input of staff, parents, and community members to help inform the profile of the next leader of Burnet CISD. To that end, the Board of Trustees invites parents and community members to attend a superintendent search input session so that you can share the qualifications and characteristics that you believe to be the most important for the next superintendent to possess. Both of the input sessions will be facilitated by Dr. Sherri Bays, the superintendent search consultant. Dr. Bays will compile the feedback and report back to the Board of Trustees. Please see the times and locations listed below.

• Tuesday, December 5, starting at 6:00-7:00 p.m.

• Bertram Elementary (Located at 315 Main Street in Bertram)

In addition to the in-person input sessions, the Board of Trustees will also be releasing an online superintendent search input survey. The link to the survey will be sent out on Friday, December 1. All parents and community members are encouraged to complete the survey by the close of the survey on Friday, December 22.

-He helped a teacher who dropped her things without being asked!

-“She is helpful and kind to her peers even when it takes up her extra time.”

-She is a “helpful citizen at all times! She lives Leader in Me habits!”

-He is always a helper in the class and is motivating others to be tidy!

-He quickly volunteered his jacket so that another student would not miss an attendance recess award!

-While on a field trip, she helped a toddler down from the playscape and brought him to his parents! She offered to play with him!

It's Substitute Appreciation Day! Our Substitutes play a TREMENDOUS role on our campus! When our teachers and aides aren’t able to be here, we rely on our substitutes to keep us running smoothly! They step up to the plate, no matter the role, whether its teacher, coach, librarian, aide, nurse, secretary, or floater! We are so grateful for our substitute pool that comes to our rescue! Pictured below are some of the subs who’ve been on campus multiple times this week, but there are many more!

SGE's ADA for this past week was 93.86%.

ADA stands for Average Daily Attendance and is defined as the total days of student attendance divided by the total days of instruction. "98 IS Great!", so 98% is our goal!

An important piece in the family-school partnership is staying aware of student performance. It is requested that parents view and electronically sign progress reports and report cards. See the directions below, and be sure to get those signatures in! In addition, parents are encouraged to regularly view grades in Skyward.

Submit an email on the same day as the transportation change request by 1:30 p.m. to sge-transportation@burnetcisd.net

Include the following details in the email:

• Student’s full name
• Student’s grade level
• Student’s homeroom teacher
• The transportation change you want made for today (bus rider to car rider or car rider to bus rider)

Requests made after 1:30pm will not be processed. Notes, phone calls, text messages and emails sent to any other email will not be processed.
