Dual Credit Information
Chireno ISD
Chireno ISD Guidlines for Dual Credit from the handbook
Chireno ISD is committed to preparing their students for college or a career after graduation from high school. If funds are available, Chireno ISD, will commit to pay for 4 college classes for each junior and senior student.
The continuation of this program is contingent on funding from the State of Texas through the Allotment Program.
- Students must be enrolled in Chireno ISD
- Students must be accepted to Angelina College and SFASU, and enrolled in their classes. (These are the only two schools that we will assist in payment). Chireno ISD deadlines are earlier than each school that we are working with.
- AP/Dual Credit classes will be assigned an additional 10 points to the student's total grade points when figuring for grade point average (GPA).
- Classes must be classes accepted for and awarded credit by Chireno ISD
- College Vocational classes that can be awarded high school state credit
- Chireno ISD will only weight Dual Credit courses that CISD pays for (4 total from the summer after the student’s sophomore year until the completion of the junior year – 2 maximum from any term and 4 total from the summer after the student’s junior year until graduation – 2 maximum from any term). This will be in accordance with the College and Vocational program.
- For a class to be counted as dual credit and weighted, the student must not have taken the class for high school credit previously.
- Chireno ISD will pay for classes taken during summer, fall, and spring terms.

Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA)
Prior to enrollment in a Texas public college or university, most students must take a standardized test called the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) assessment. The purpose of the TSI assessment is to assess the reading, mathematics, and writing skills that entering freshmen level students should have if they are to perform effectively in undergraduate certificate or degree programs in Texas public colleges and universities. This assessment may be required before a student enrolls in a dual credit course offered through the district as well. Achieving certain benchmark scores on this assessment for college readiness may also waive certain end of-course assessment requirements in limited circumstances.
We are now offering the TSIA on our Chireno Campus. Please schedule a time with Mrs. Pinner.
