Cold Weather Reminders: Please remember that school doors do not open until 7:10. If your student arrives before this time, he/she will need to remain outside. Please remind your students to have coats, hats, and gloves if they will be outside before the doors open.

Early Student Pick Up: If you are picking up your student early during ACCESS time each day, and students are outside, we will not have your student come the office until the lunch period begins. It is very difficult to locate your student when the entire grade level is outside during this ACCESS period. If you can, please wait to pick up until the lunch period begins.

Course Fees: 2nd Semester/3rd Quarter course fees will be assessed in MySchoolBucks accounts the week of January 22nd. If you have any questions/concerns about those fees, please email our bookkeeper at svaughn@dcsdk12.org.

Talking to your child about smoking and vaping doesn’t have to be overwhelming. In this video, you will learn four tips to effectively talk with your child about vaping.

The primary goal of the Love and Logic approach is NOT to make kids behave. Rather, the primary goal is to help them learn how to make themselves behave. If they can achieve this goal, they won’t be dependent upon rules or regulations to control their behavior.

The ability to manage their emotions in healthy ways will serve kids quite well in life. Kids will be happier and healthier if they are able to master the following concepts:

• Delayed gratification

• Empathy and social responsiveness

• The ability to calm oneself when experiencing strong emotions

• Cause-and-effect thinking

Modeling these concepts in your own life is the best way to instill self-control in your kids’ lives. Begin experimenting with one of the most powerful teaching tools offered by the Love and Logic approach: Allow your children to overhear you talking about how you apply self-control. Examples include:

• I saw this new TV that I really wanted, but I said to myself, “No. My old one is just fine. I’ll just be all stressed out about how to pay for it.”

• The other day one of my friends said something that really made me mad. I kept having to remind myself, “Stay calm. If I say something nasty, I’ll feel horrible later.”

• I always have an easier time being nice to difficult people when I remember to put myself in their shoes.

Remember: Children are typically more likely to learn when they overhear these things rather than being lectured. Have fun with this experiment!

8th grade boys basketball registration is open in MySchoolBucks. The season begins on January 22nd. Players are REQUIRED to have a current sports physical on file in order to participate.

7th grade is also looking for various small item donations (fidget toys, play dough, other dollar store fun items, silly objects, etc.) for our Friday red card drawing prize bin. Please mention "The 7th grade prize bin," when you drop off.
