It was fabulous to wake up to a light dusting of snow on our beautiful Maunga Taranaki this morning. It is a timely reminder to ensure your tamariki have the appropriate clothing for the chiller days. If you are struggling to provide wet weather gear, warm gear and or need some assistance with hotties, beanies, gumboot etc, drop us a line and we are able to help you out.

What a beautiful start to the Year 5 & 6 Camp at Vertical Horizon yesterday. We hope the weather continues to shine and the fun and games are enjoyable for all - oh and a bit of learning too. Thanks heaps to the Staff and Whanau who have ensured that this camp go ahead for our tamariki.

We are super proud to announce the Book Signing Launch of Pincer's New Shell Home created with the The Rock Pool Writers Collective, Indigo Feasy, Olivia Benseman, Alice Williams, Grayson Young & Daxtyn Ferguson.

We are immensely grateful to: Mrs Robin Drake, Mrs. Diana Neild - author, Mr Rangi Adams - their class teacher, and Mr Dave Gunson – illustrator , to name a few for their encouragement and expertise. Thank you to the staff who have assisted in behind the scenes as well.

Thanks to Sarah Lucas- Broughton for working with the Crank Crew today. Sarah and the crew got things rolling as they investigated soil composition and did a test. The team also looked at radius and essential design elements.....

Sarah said "Great bunch of kids. They made a good human pump track. Leant about crests and troughs and sine waves, we can't wait to start building."

We are looking forward to this community-led development - and now we are asking who wants to jump in and help us.

We need:

● Passionate people to help with actual construction - this will involve using buckets, barrows, spades and shovels to shape and pack the track to the design.

● Anyone with previous experience in pump track riding, design and construction of bike trails.

If you know of anyone passionate about pump tracks, then shoulder tap them and give them my details!

We will create a working group and plan events to work on the track. Pump track building is a fun, energetic, physical challenge - and we will make sure there are scones and cuppas for all. Come join us and make new friends, get fitter and help us build an epic pump track here in our own community. Our first get together is scheduled for Saturday 28 May 0900-1300 - come along with your enthusiasm and a shovel ready to move some clay.

What is a Pump Track?

A pump track is a circuit of rollers, banked turns and features designed to be ridden completely by riders "pumping"—generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedalling or pushing. It develops cardio fitness, muscle strength, risk taking, and best of all - spacial awareness skills and confidence - all while having fun

We are getting ready to plan for 2023. If you or you know of anyone, wishing to enrol their child at Inglewood Primary School, please get them to email the Office with the child's name, date of birth, parent's name and contact number, so we can put them on our pre-enrolment list. This is for both IN ZONE and OUT of Zone Enrolments

We have a number of our members leaving us next year due to their children leaving Primary School so new members are essential to keeping our group going to fundraise for the school and its students.

Whole school photos including class, individual and sibling photos will be taken on Monday 16 May. Sorry we are unable to include pre schoolers for the sibling photos. If you have any queries or would like a sibling envelope, please see the school office.

New Plymouth Basketball started this week. Please check the times and dates. Parents will need to be there to supervise their children and help on the sideline where they can. These are the game times for the season. If your child is unable to attend their game please let your other team members know. The Year 7&8 team was given their draw last Friday at school. We look forward to the season!

Scholastic book orders have been given to all students this week. Orders are due back to the office by Friday 20 May or alternatively you can order online.

Congratulations: Four years ago Michael Llewellyn was working part time at Inglewood primary school as a teachers aide. During his time here in Taranaki he was also working on a body of songs he had hopes of recording into an album.

Michael's time at Inglewood Primary school and the support from Karen and the Community really helped him find the confidence to follow in his dreams. 'I wanted to make my ways to Wellington, put together a band and release an album. My time in New Plymouth was the seed to this growth'.

Soft and bouncy, Michaels expertly crafted songs tell stories of his time spent living beneath the maunga. Releasing 'Oh My Darling', late last year he has since been able to tour the country playing shows and festivals.

Kicking off his first nationwide tour next Saturday, May 14 at the Little Theatre in New Plymouth, Michael Llewellyn with his backing band 'The Darlings' are returning to Taranaki for intimate one night only show :)
