Greetings from Pastor John
Hi Church,
We have been going through the series called “A Good Church” intended to show what the Bible says about being a good church. The idea is to show what Christian goodness is about, how it is we reflect God’s goodness in the world. This week we are seeing that a Good Church Loves. We will be in Titus Chapter 3 to look at what love is and that we learn about love by knowing God and then are called to express love for others because of our love for God. Love has been so poorly defined in our current culture that we need to see what the Bible says about love and how it is we are called to express it in the world around us as the church.
See you Sunday!
John

•Which disciples did Jesus call in this story?
•What qualities made Jesus a good leader?
•How can we follow the examples of Jesus’ disciples?
Because Jesus gave up His life for us and we have committed to following Him, our lives are to be marked by sacrifice as we are willing to do whatever God calls on us to do as we invest in others so that they might become disciples of Jesus.
• HEAD: What are some potential risks and joys from sharing with others the good news of Jesus as the Messiah?
• HEART: Do you view sharing the gospel as a joyful privilege or dreaded duty? Why?
• HANDS: How will you use your inf
VOICES from CHURCH HISTORY
“Jesus has no desire to trick you into following him with a kind of bait and switch. He is utterly up front about the cost. In fact, he urges you to count the cost. ‘For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? . . . ’ (Luke 14:28). Let the call to follow Jesus be clear and honest. ‘In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world’ (John 16:33). It is costly, and it is worth it.” --John Piper

This summer (June 3-July 23), I have the opportunity to serve through the Chicago Eagles Summer Academy. The Eagles are the Midwest division of Missionary Athletes International (MAI), a non-profit, interdenominational sports ministry. The goal of the Chicago Eagles is to share the gospel through the environment of soccer. They are also committed to training athletes, like me, in the discipline of sports ministry, so I am living out my faith both on and off the field. Throughout the summer, I’ll be able to serve and share my faith at youth camps and ministries both in Chicago and in Brazil.
Thank you so much for your support and prayers!
Sincerely,
Toby Smith

Upcoming Events:
2/15/24 We Will Meet for Ground Floor: 10 Great Books
Also, this year we will be taking Ground Floor in a new direction. I am calling it Ground Floor: 10 Great Books. Each month, starting in February, we will be looking at a great book that will help us read together and discuss what it means to be a Christian in our culture today. You are welcome to join us if you have read it; you can pick up a copy and join us for the meeting; you can join us even if you haven’t read it and would still like to listen in and participate.
The first book we will be discussing on February 15th is:
"Reading for the Love of God: How to Read as a Spiritual Practice" by Jessica Hooten Wilson. It will help to frame our times together to understand why it is important that we read together as community.
