Mohegan Weekly Update 2/2/2024
FEB 2 Update
I cannot believe we are already entering the month of February. This year is flying by. Our midyear testing is now complete and we are moving full throttle into our curricular units. The parents of students who will be receiving additional support in reading or math were notified by our staff. We are celebrating Black History Month in February by reading books and learning about famous African Americans and their contributions to society.
INCLEMENT WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENTS AND TIMES
In case of inclement weather, please check with WTNH (ABC), WFSB (CBS), or WVIT (NBC). You can also check the district website. Infinite Campus messages are not always sent out.
In the event that inclement weather is arriving, here are the times for Mohegan Elementary School:

PM Pre-K (4 year olds) - 12:50 - 3:45
3-Hour Delay
K-4 - 12:00-3:45

Early Dismissal
K-4 - 9:00 - 1:50
AM Pre-K (3 year olds) - 9:00-11:20
PM Pre-K (4 year olds) - NO SCHOOL
Again, these are for weather related early dismissals and delays ONLY. Scheduled Early Dismissal times vary for Pre-K.
100TH DAY OF SCHOOL
Mohegan School will celebrate the 100th day of school on Monday, February 5th. Students and staff are encouraged to dress up to look like they are 100 years old! See the flier at the end of the newsletter for ideas.
FOOTBALL FRIDAY
Friday, February 9th is Football Friday at Mohegan Elementary School. Students are encouraged to wear their favorite football jersey in preparation of the Super Bowl on Sunday.
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
Our annual Jump Rope for Heart is heating up!! We will be fundraising for the American Heart Association to benefit heart disease between now and Friday, February 9th! You can either donate online or send in a check or cash with your child to school. They can return it to Mr. Napoli in the gymnasium.
Last year we raised the 3rd most money in the whole state!!! Our school goal this year is $30,000!!
We will be holding our Jump Rope for Heart Day on Monday, February 12th.

VALENTINES DAY
I want to let parents know that classes will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with Valentines for all students. Teachers will be sending home a list of all student names so you can bring them in for everyone. Room sponsors will provide a heart healthy snack. This is in line with our Jump Rope 4 Heart fundraiser as kids learn about eating healthy and staying active for a healthy heart.
PRE-K NEWS
As a reminder, students getting picked up MUST be in a car seat. Our staff will not allow a student to enter a vehicle that does not have the proper car seat for Pre-K students.

On February 12th, the Pre-K program will be closed for the day as teachers are attending a Professional Development. There will be no Pre-K for 3 year olds or 4 year olds on this day.
Pre-K will also get a visit from a local dental hygienist this month to promote healthy teeth and gums!
2024 KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year for Kindergarten registration will take place from February 1 through March 1, 2024. Please call the school at 203-929-4121 to schedule an appointment.

BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETINGS
Budget preparation for the 2024-2025 school year has begun. I included a list of upcoming Board of Education meetings at the end of this newsletter.
The Board of Education will have a series of budget meetings and workshops over the next several weeks. You can watch the virtual Board of Education meetings online on YouTube. You can search for the Shelton Board of Education Channel on YouTube (search for SPSBOE).

During Budget Workshop meetings, there is no public portion. These meetings are open to the public, but it is a work session for the BOE. Public comment is available at all regular Board of Education Meetings.
