As region 14 of the MiSTEM Network, the EUP MiSTEM Region is working with regional and statewide partners to empower education while making solid connections to business, industry, and careers.

On April 21, Lake Superior State University's Center for Freshwater Research and Education will host the EUP STEM Integrated Learning Team (ILT) for a day of professional learning at the new CFRE building on the St. Mary's River. STEM ILT brings together math teachers, science teachers, computer science teachers and all STEM area teachers together for collaboration and learning. We focus on professional learning, innovative program development, and community connections. The day will include activities at the atlantic salmon hatchery, CFRE Discovery Center, and connection to big data analysis through the MiWaterNet water quality network. We are excited to work with CFRE staff and appreciate this opportunity!

Family Engineering Workshop:

If you are interested in learning more about how to host a Family Engineering event at your school, please register HERE for a three hour workshop which will be held at the EUPISD on June 27. This workshop will include training and starter kit of materials to run a Family Engineering event at your school! See more information in the Family Engineering Flyer.

Cereal City Science Professional Learning page: See this page for upcoming online professional learning workshops with Cereal City Science. We will be working with Cereal City Science to plan for additional elementary and middle school science workshops in the EUP and will share that information in the near future.

Computer Science:

• Statewide CS PLN- Monthly meetings for supporting CS education in K-12

• Elementary PD for teachers- Free virtual workshops with SCECHs and Stipends through MiSTEM grant!

• Middle School and High School PD for teachers- Free virtual or face-to-face summer workshops with SCECHs and Stipends through MiSTEM grant!

• MTU GenCyber Teacher Camp

3-P Agriculture Workshops at the Chatham Research Farm and Waishkey Bay Farm:

• Two days at each site this summer. Registrants can go to one of the farm workshops or both sites. Limited to the first 20 registrants.

The STEM Teaching Tools are resources that have been developed through a project called ACESSE through the Council of State Science Supervisors. EUP teacher Billie Ennes was part of the team from Michigan, along with MiSTEM Executive Director Megan Schrauben who contributed to the development of STEM Teaching Tools! Thank you to Billie for representing Michigan and the EUP!

The Trig-Star competition is a national trigonometry competition open to high school students throughout the country. Trig-Star is designed to show students real world applications of trigonometry in the land surveying and engineering professions. The students are given four questions, and the student that has the most correct answers in the least amount of time is declared the EUP regional winner. Teachers and students from all EUP districts are invited to participate. Registration ends on April 15!

As the EUP MiSTEM Region director, Kevin works to serve STEM education and workforce development in Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac Counties. The EUP STEM Region connects K-12 education, higher education, business/industry leaders, government agencies, and non-profits to engage in collaborative efforts regionally and statewide.
