WELCOME TO THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR!
Please note that this bulletin CAN be translated into multiple languages. On a desktop just look to the right ---> for the button.
We are so happy to see many old faces in our building, as well as, welcoming many new students, staff, & faculty to our Mary Bryan family.
We have some policy changes that are now in effect for our building. Please note the following:
- You must have a car rider tag displayed in your vehicle to pick up your child in the car rider line at the end of the day. If you do not have a tag you must park & come into the front office. You may request car tags through the front office. You may also call Mrs. Terra Weddell @ 317)789*2609 or email your request to tweddell@perryschools.org.
- Changes to afternoon transportation for your student MUST be made to the front office no later than 3:00.
- As always, please make sure you have your ID to pick up your children.
- Make sure you send your children to school with a reusable water bottle. Fill up stations are located throughout the building.

Reading Round Up
This year, the whole school is starting the day with a "story time" called Reading Round Up. This 20 minute time is meant to give students an opportunity to listen to a fluent reader share a story with no agenda. It's a time to make connections, build vocabulary, and practice listening comprehension - all of which help build a stronger reader. We rate the stories we listen to and are planning lots of ways to celebrate this fun activity as a school. We encourage you to ask your child about what they are listening to in Reading Round Up.
SOCIAL WORK CORNER
ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH!!
As we know, September is National Attendance Awareness month! Research shows that students who show up daily get better grades, have improved self-confidence, and can maintain their strong bonds with other students and staff here at school. Below are some tips that can help ensure students are able to attend school daily!
Find out what day school starts and make sure your child has the required shots.
Build regular routines for bedtime and the morning.
Talk about the importance of regular attendance and about how your child feels about school.
Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.
Keep a chart recording your child’s attendance at home. At the end of the week, talk with your child about what you see.
Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Ask a family member, neighbor or another parent for help
Seek support from school staff or community groups to help with transportation, health problems, or no safe path to school.
Ask the teacher for resources and ideas to continue learning at home if your child must stay home due to illness
Read current information from the school nurse about when to come to school and when to stay home. Call the Mary Bryan nurse, Heather Mandel, at 317-789-2641 with any questions.

If you have any questions about our attendance policies or need assistance with any of the above suggestions, please contact the school social worker, Shannon Romine, at (317) 789-2615 or sromine@perryschools.org.

Our students complete one unit (5 lessons) each 9 weeks. Each unit has a different focus. This quarter, all of our students will be learning about Growth Mindset and Goal Setting. Children learn how to pay attention and manage distractions, develop a growth mindset, and apply goal-setting strategies to their social and academic lives.
The Parent information for each grade level is attached below. This will give you an overview of what your student is learning and ideas for how to build on these skills at home.

As proclaimed by Governor Holcomb, September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Cancer is the number one disease-related cause of death in children. Over 16,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. This month, “Go Gold” with Perry Township Schools as we do a small part in raising awareness of childhood cancer and supporting students and families who are affected.
What can you do?
● Learn more about childhood cancer via the American Childhood Cancer Organization
● Paint social media gold to raise awareness! Check out the graphics attached.
We can't wait for clubs!
Let your students know that YES, we are bringing back clubs this year. Keep an eye out here in the bulletin for more information.

High Ability Screening
Dear Parents/Guardians of second and fifth grade students:
We need additional information on the academic needs and performance of
individual students in order to provide instruction at the appropriate level for
each child. All second and fifth grade students will take a standardized test to
begin to collect this information. The testing will take place in September and
is the first step in our high ability screening. If you have any questions
regarding testing, please contact Kim Jovic at: kjovic@perryschools.org.
It's not too late to order school pictures!
Use Order Code: 69199YB
As we begin to host more home athletic events this year we want to remind families and
students about conduct at our events.
Students attending athletic events should only be sitting in the stands during the games. For
the safety of our students and guests, no one should be playing behind the bleachers or
along the stands. Additionally, no one should enter the event with outside footballs, soccer
balls, etc. They will be taken away.
We appreciate your cooperation and thank you for supporting our athletes!
