Happy Friday,

As the weather continues to fluctuate, please continue to send your child with warm clothes for recess. During the lunch hour students are outside for 30 minutes and hoodies or sweatshirts aren't enough. We ask that all students have a coat for temps under 50 degrees. Thank you for your help! If your child doesn't want to wear a coat, feel free to use the standard "The principal said so" :)

One Book, One School

We met One Book One School author Terry Lynn Johnson!

Students at OMS were so excited to meet author Terry Lynn Johnson during Zoom calls this week! Before the question and answer sessions, students had opportunities to write questions for the author. About fifteen students were chosen to ask their questions to Ms. Johnson. We learned that she splits her time between her work as a game warden in Ontario, Canada and her work as an author. Ms. Johnson told us several funny stories about her experiences interacting with wild animals on her job. In fact, her work with animals has inspired her to write both Rescue At Lake Wild as well as her other books about sled dogs. Many of the fourth graders are currently reading her other books such as Sled Dog School as they study the Iditarod.

STEAM NIGHT DETAILS

Olive's STEAM Night is coming up! Please join us for this family-friendly, hands-on event Thursday, March 2nd from 6:30-8:00. STEAM in our community is this year's focus and we welcome presenters from our police department, fire department, Arlington Height Memorial Library, District 214, Harper College, Olive Science Club, Metropolis Theater, Something Blue Photography, Southwest Airlines, The Frog Lady, and Step Forward Therapy. Plus, many staff-led activities! With over 30 science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities to choose from there will be something for everyone! Hear a vocal concert performed by our fourth-grade students. Help construct a free-little library for our school. Build a bristle-bot. Visit some amphibians and pet a therapy dog. Plus much, much more! As this is a family event, parents please plan to remain with your child and participate in the fun. See you there! Thank you to the Olive PTA and staff for this jointly sponsored event.
