Principal's Message
Dear Baggett Families,
One glance at the 2nd semester calendar for the 2023-24 school year will show you that Baggett ES is the active and involved community that anyone would want their child to attend. From our basketball games with our cheerleaders and dance/step team and our upcoming T-ball season to our Black History Month Event, School Play, Movie Night, International Festival, Literacy Night and Talent Show. There is so much going on at Baggett ES. Please place the dates/times listed below in the calendar section on your personal calendar and please plan to join us.
Every day, we are working to make Baggett ES a school you can be proud of, one that serves the needs of all of our students no matter their passion or talent, and one that inspires our students to become creative, impactful members of society as our school vision states.
What is your vision for the future? Have you considered what it is you want from the rest of the school year, the calendar year and the years ahead? What is your vision for your children? What is it that you want for them and from them? It is stitched into the fabric of American culture that parents always want the next generation to be more successful and to have an easier life, to not have to struggle as much as we do. Perhaps this is your dream. I am a strong believer in the value of education to make this vision a reality. Success comes in many forms, but one thing that is for certain is that education is powerful key in unlocking the door to one avenue for success. Certainly, it's not the only way. There are many stories about people making it big without prioritizing education. These are few and far between. The safest bet is to invest in your child's education, to prioritize education, and to support your child's education.
What can you do to accomplish this? Stay here - Decide that even if the rent is cheaper down the road that it's worth it to stay right here at Baggett! Show up here - Become a part of our community by attending the events I referenced above! Support here - Carve some time out of your schedule to read with your child in their native language, volunteer through our Family Center, and join PTA! We need you and you need us! Let's work together to achieve our combined vision for the future!

Bringing Social Emotional Learning Home!
In January, our Kindergarten and 1st-grade students learned about growth mindset and thinking positively. We taught our 2nd graders about perseverance through a growth mindset, appreciating differences and what makes us special. Our 3rd-grade students learned about their identities and the importance of not judging others, before moving into lessons on empathy. 4th and 5th grade students practiced the skill of goal setting and perseverance to go after their goals. Our 4th-grade students also learned about the importance of empathy and respect for each other.
National School Counseling Week 2024 (Feb. 5-9), sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), highlights the essential contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. Every student deserves a school counselor to help with academic achievement strategies, managing emotions, applying interpersonal skills, and planning for postsecondary options. School counselors are Standards-Based and Student-Focused.
We are looking ahead to Career Day, which will be held Tuesday, March 5th from 8:00-11:30. We would love your help to showcase the careers of Baggett families and community members! If you are interested in presenting or know someone who would be, please contact one of the counselors listed below.
