Pirate PRIDE - Strong Character Traits
We are showing our Pirate PRIDE this year by encouraging students to model strong character traits. Each month we will discuss a new trait with students. Teachers and staff members will be on the lookout for students modeling the trait in the classroom, cafeteria, hallways, etc. Students who are exhibiting the trait will receive a ticket. Their ticket will go into a box, and their name will be put into a raffle for recognition and a small reward at the end of the month.
For the month of September, we are working on the trait of being "prepared". We encourage you to talk to your child about this trait and how they can model it at school and at home!
We look forward to shouting out all of our pirates who are showing their 'pride' this year!
(*If you know of any community members/businesses willing to donate prizes, please reach out to Shannon Barnett at shannon.barnett@ecschools.net)

Reading Fun
Mrs. Morris' class discussed the power of words by reading the book “Mr. Peabody's Apples” by Madonna. In the book, Mr. Peabody cuts his feather pillow in half and shakes out all the feathers. He tells Tommy put them back in the pillow, but Tommy says it’s impossible to pick them all up. Mr. Peabody makes his point: it’s impossible to undo all the damage caused by spreading rumors.
Thanks to Mrs. Morris for sharing this valuable story in such a fun, engaging way!

STREAM week
The library isn’t usually a silent space. Last week was STREAM week.
Pictures from 4th grade show “robots” navigating (sometimes dancing) the grid from start to finish. Their code was written by their partners. “Coders” were only allowed to use a list of arrows; as many or as few as they wanted.
Pictures from 1st grade show them using the engineering design process after reading “If I Built a Car” by Chris Van Dussen, to plan and build their dream car.
Pictures from Kindergarten show them learning to “imagineer” what they would ask for if Dr. Seuss’, “Octember the First” was a real date.

Senior Pictures
Senior pictures will begin the week of August 7 and will extend through the end of September with the first week of October reserved for makeups. Photo session length will be 30 minutes for each senior on the campus of Milligan University. Sessions will be held outside in the evening hours to capture optimal lighting for the best photos.
Seniors can purchase a photo package of all senior photos for $60. This one-time fee will allow for access to digital downloads, including cap and gown and graduation photos.
