Rāmere Friday 21st October Whiringa-ā-nuku 2022 (T4:W1 of 8)
Our Tumuaki / Principal
Updates and developments to share with you this week include the following...
Fortnightly Celebration Times: We are moving to have our Celebration Time every fortnight starting at 2.20pm on what we call odd weeks of the term (i.e. Weeks 1, 3, 5, and 7). Check out the events coming up for this. This has been part of a review to increase the teaching time for the classrooms.
Team Kea (Room 1) Support: As Team Kea grows we are rolling out additional support into that room. Caroline Blackmore will be there in the mornings on Monday and Tuesday and we will have Belinda Knapp in the room Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. This continues the great teacher-to-pupil ratio and helps our younger learners have a positive and engaging start to school.
Uniform Excellence: We encourage uniform excellence as it presents us well to each other and to the community. Teachers will be giving reminder notices to children who are coming to school without compliant uniform items. We would really appreciate parents keeping an eye on this and, if necessary, purchasing the relevant item/s that are causing issues. Thank you very much. There is help available if finances are a challenge. Complete a Financial Support Application at the office; the process is discrete and respectful.
2023 Class Lists: Term Four is a busy term as we are finishing a year and planning for the next year. There are a lot of tasks to be done. One of those is to confirm class lists for 2023.
Here is our class structure.
- Team Kea: NE - Year One
- Team Kiwi: Year One and Two
- Team Pukeko: Year Two and Three
- Team Tui: Year Three and Four
- Team Kereru: Year Four and Five
- Team Kahu: Year Five and Six
We appreciate parental input in regard to anything that we need to know as we build 2023's class lists. Please contact myself or your child's classroom teacher so that we can take into consideration your thoughts. Thank you to the parents who have done this already.
Here's the process we are working through:
- Monday 27th September to Thursday 10th November: we draft up class lists, taking into account teacher input, parent information, class numbers, social combinations, academic performance, and distribution of student learning needs.
- Friday 11th November: Class lists finalized.
- Monday 21st to Friday 25th November: During the school interviews share with parents and children what class their child will be in .
- Thursday 8th of December: Bring the 2023 classes together for half an hour so that they can see who is with them in their next year's room.
Administration Remodel: We are in quite a state of flux in our office space as furniture, equipment and resources are all moving, but we can see things taking shape which is very exciting. Thanks for your understanding around this project's disruption.
Term Four Events: Term Four is jam-packed with events with two big ones coming up in the next two weeks. They are:
- LMV Zone Athletics: This is on Wednesday 26th of October at Menzies College grounds. Remember children need their events top (and name tag will be provided by the school). They will need a good lunch and drink bottle as well. We will take the children down to Wyndham by bus at 8.45am. We look forward to seeing you down there to cheer on our children and if you can help with supervision or with an event if asked that would be great as well.
- Pet Day: Our annual Pet Day is on Tuesday 1st November and this is held at the Wyndham Agricultural and Pastoral Field Days site at the end of Balaclava Street (the main street of Wyndham). This is another great community event and well worth putting into your calendar. Parents are to take children, with all their entries, down and back on the day. It is a school day and all children are expected to attend.
To Give Away: We have a few items surplus to our requirements that we have put in the bike-shed near the west driveway gate. Help yourself.
Acknowledging - Team Edendale
- Rhys Wryrill: Rhys from Cut 'n' Edge tends to our school lawns. The lawn-mowing season spans a number of months. We are privileged to have a good number of grass areas for children to play on and having them presented tidily is much appreciated. Thank you Rhys (and team) for your work with this.

Our Kura News and Information
SunSmart School - Sunhats
A reminder that we are a SunSmart accredited school and one of our policies is that in Terms Four and One our students are expected to wear a school sunhat when outside on fine days.
The sunhat should be a maroon or black bucket hat as per our uniform (available from The Warehouse school uniform section) and should be clearly named.
Staff will be enforcing the wearing of sunhats from next Tuesday so please make sure your children each have a named sunhat at school that fits properly.
We will provide sunscreen for children to use (or they may bring their own) for protecting their arms and legs.
Children without the correct sunhats will have to play in the shade or stay indoors.
Book Club - Issue 7
Scholastic Book Club Issue 7 has gone home.
All orders need to be returned to the office by Friday 4th November. You can also order online.
Community Thanks - Netball Goal and Swimming Pool
Thank you to Brendon Clarke for welding the netball hoop up. Thank you to Sarah White for supplying backstroke flags.
Lower Mataura Valley - Zone Athletics
Our Zone Athletics is scheduled for Wednesday 26th of October at the Menzies College grounds.
All children come to school in their events uniform (events top and black unbranded shorts) and we will bus them down together (unless they have opted to run the 800m and if so parents would take them down ready for that).
They will need a good lunch, drink bottle and named sunhat.
At the end of the event children are welcome to head away with their parents but please mark them off relevant bus lists.
On the day of our zone athletics parent help might be asked to help events run smoothly. Please be open to contributing to supervising the children and supporting the teachers. This helps everything go like clockwork.
Edendale Primary School - Events Top
We have the Edendale School Event Top for sale at the office. Sizes 6 - 14 new $40 each.
There are a couple of 2nd hand tops in-store $10 each. Please contact the office.
Character Values Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L): Term Four Integrity Ponotanga
Integrity means we behave to a high standard of character everywhere we are and is shown through honesty, truthfulness, accuracy, consistent behaviour, selflessness and self-discipline. We demonstrate it when we...
Are honest and trustworthy.
Do the right thing even when no one is looking.
Make positive choices that we are proud of.
This week's Principal's Values Award goes to: Lukas Burke.
Most Valuable Pupil: Team Kea
Stella Bacarro is Team Kea’s MVP this week.
Stella is a lovely young lady who shows our school value of Ponotanga - Integrity.
Stella walks into our classroom with a smile and quietly gets unpacked and ready for the day. She knows our class routines and keeps herself organised throughout the day.
Stella makes positive choices during class time and play time, even when no one is looking. She is caring, honest and trustworthy which makes her a very reliable friend and someone I can count on to be doing the right thing.
Stella has a ‘can do’ attitude and constantly works hard with her learning at school and at home. She completes tasks to a high standard and has made excellent progress in all learning areas.
Stella is always kind and has been a great help to those around her. She has been an awesome friend and role model to the new children starting school.
It has been a pleasure having you in Team Kea Stella. You have a bright future ahead of you and I know you will achieve great things. Keep being a superstar!
Most Valuable Pupil: Team Pukeko
Team Pukeko’s MVP this week for Ponotanga - Integrity is Lukas Bourke.
Lukas is a class-mate who consistently stays true to himself, and all of us in Team Pukeko know that we can trust him to be the same person and make the same choices about his behaviour and actions no matter who he is with or what he is doing.
When class-mates play with Lukas, they know that he will be friendly and kind to them and they will have a lot of fun together.
Lukas is always honest and will tell the truth, even if it might mean there will be consequences. In his school-work, Lukas is quick to admit when he has made what we call a ‘silly sausage’ mistake and he is able to have a giggle about it before fixing it up.
Lukas has a great sense of humour and loves to play games and share in the jokes and fun-times that we have in the class. He really enjoys performing and entertaining us with some of his antics.
Thank you for being an honest and friendly team-mate in Team Pukeko, Lukas - we always have a great time when you are with us!
Most Valuable Pupil: Team Kereru
The MVP for Team Kereru showing Ponotanga - Integrity is Taite Clarke.
Taite is a well-liked student in Team Kereru. He gets along with his peers and will share the equipment he brings to school. He comes to school with a smile on his face and looks forward to seeing his friends.
Taite shows Ponotanga - Integrity by being honest with his actions in the classroom. He will own up to his mistakes, which is a great role model for other students. As he has said before, “I am not going to lie, I’m going to be honest.”
Taite is consistent with his work in the classroom and keeps up with all learning activities. He will help others if they are stuck.
You will often see Taite showing a positive attitude, including students from other classes and being fair in games.
Keep being awesome, Taite! I look forward to seeing how you progress for the next two years at Edendale School. Ka rawe!
