Teacher Thanksgiving - Help Needed!
Help Needed for Our Teacher Thanksgiving Lunch
On Nov. 16 we will be hosting our annual Thanksgiving lunch for our faculty and staff. We would love the help of some parent volunteers to set up for the event, keep the lunch running smoothly (helping to replenish food/put food out for different lunch shifts) and clean up after the event. If you are able to help with this, please sign up for a shift here. You can sign up for more than one time slot if you would like. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! If you have any questions, please contact michelle.prince@lcps.org.

Substance Use/Abuse Message
LCPS Superintendent, Dr. Aaron Spence, recently shared a detailed message with the LCPS community encouraging parents to talk with their students about substance use in general and the risks of Fentanyl in particular. His message contained educational and support resources, all of which can be found on the Student Mental Health Services Substance Use Resources page. In addition, we want to share how Rock Ridge is supporting our community of students and parents.
The following student presentations are planned or have already been implemented and will include education about Fentanyl:
- 9th and 10th grade substance use prevention presentations in Health & PE classrooms (November & December)
- Advisory lesson for all grades (January)
- 12th grade transition presentation (Spring)
- Inclusion of substance use risks in Signs of Suicide presentations for all grades (Fall)
Our PEER students held a Red Ribbon Week campaign handing out red ribbons with information about the risks of substance use and a reminder that students can visit Ms. Brown in room L313 for support.
Fiona Brown, LPC, is Rock Ridge’s Student Assistance Specialist. She provides individual counseling and education as well as group counseling for students at-risk of or struggling with substance use. These services are voluntary and confidential. Ms. Brown is also available as a resource to parents for education and consultation regarding mental health and substance use concerns. A parent coffee was held in September and another will be held this semester. Please contact Ms. Brown at Fiona.Brown@lcps.org with any need for information, consultation or support for your child.
Signs of Suicide Presentation and Opt Out
Each year, Rock Ridge Unified Mental Health Team members give mental health presentations to all students. This year, 9th and 10th grade Signs of Suicide presentations are occurring during your student’s Health/P.E. class. 9th grade presentations are occurring on November 29th & 30th. 10th grade presentations are occurring on December 4th & 5th.
If you do not want your student attending this presentation, please complete the following permission click link to opt your student out of the presentation. Students who opt out will be able to go an alternate location during the short presentation.
