Our Math Night was a HUGE success! Thank you to all the families that were able to join us! Our families were SO engaged with their kiddos playing math games. We fed 300 people and had about 350 people visit. Our estimation station winners were announced on Tuesday and the students took their items home:
- Starburst - actual 334 - guess 340 (Tinlee 1st grade)
- Tootsie Rolls - actual 178 - guess 172 (Braxten 3rd grade)
- Bouncy Balls - actual 254 - guess 250 (Julia 5th grade)
We try to have a family event every two months. Our previous one was Skate Night and our next event is Parent Teacher Conferences (PTC) in March followed by Classic Skate Night in May. In June we will have a new event - skate night at Neptune Skating Rink in Ogden. We wanted to have a swim night but unfortunately, the costs for the Roy Aquatic Center and North Shore nearly doubled and are outside of our budget.
Your child's teacher will send you a link to sign up to visit during PTC. Our PTC dates are:
- Wednesday, March 6, 2:00 - 8:00 pm (early out)
- Thursday, March 7, 8:00 am - 8:00 pm (no school)
- Friday, March 8, 8:00 am - 6:00 pm (no school)
VISION SCREENING - Our schoolwide vision screening in on Tuesday, January 30. Please read further below in the newsletter about this screening and the link to opt your student OUT of the screening.

Once your family has volunteered 30 hours or you have donated $90 of in-kind donations, PLEASE stop by the office and ask for a FROG for the volunteer pond. Write your family name on the frog and tape it on the pond. Thank you for the time and things you give to Bridge!
YEARBOOK - Please see below for information to order the yearbook. The school does NOT have yearbooks to purchase - you MUST order your yearbook online. The last day to order is May 1, 2024.
STAFF HIGHLIGHTS - This week we highlight our 6th grade teachers! Please read further below in the newsletter for information about these amazing educators!
LOTTERY OPEN - the lottery for 2024-2025 is now open. If you have a sibling you would like to enroll at Bridge for next school year, you MUST enter them in the lottery. We will run the first lottery for siblings, including incoming kindergarteners, on February 5. If your kindergarten sibling is NOT in the lottery before February 5 they will NOT have a spot in kindergarten for next school year.

Math Night Fun
Valentine's Day at Bridge
Some classes have opted to have a Valentine's party and some classes will have a Valentine's exchange. Exchanging Valentines is optional - no child is required to bring Valentine's to school. If a child chooses to bring Valentines they can either bring one for the entire grade OR for just their class.
Every student at Bridge has been provided a large white bag to decorate and turn into a Valentine sack (kids do not make Valentine's boxes at home to bring). Please check with your child's teacher to see what they are planning for Valentine's Day at school.
Students CAN bring candy as part of their Valentine's cards. However, students are NOT allowed to open Valentine's cards at school. Instead, their Valentine's sack will be sent home with them after school and parents can oversee their candy consumption.
Maturation
At Bridge, instead of having a "maturation night" for 5th grade students which other schools typically do, we opt to provide parents the information so they can determine how much they want to share with their child and at which age they want to share it. For many girls, by the time they are in 5th grade they have already started menstruation and it is a little too late for a lesson on maturation. We believe parents can best determine what students should know about maturation and puberty, and when a child should know it.
Our maturation committee met and reviewed information from different sources. They determined, and our Board approved, to use the maturation information provided by Provo School District. The maturation information includes videos and packets for girls and boys that you can download and share with your child.
This is the link to the MATURATION information.
Schoowide Vision Screeing - Friends for Sight
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Bridge Charter School will be conducting vision screenings in accordance with the Utah School Vision Screening Policy on January 30, 2024 beginning at 9:00 am at the school. Friends for Sight is a local nonprofit organization that specializes in vision screening, and FFS staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist with the process.
For the most accurate results, if your student wears prescription glasses or contacts, please have them wear them on the day of the screening. Screenings are intended to find out if the student has the tools they need to see clearly at school, so it's ideal to test the student's best possible corrected vision. If your child cannot see at the appropriate distance for their age, or fails a SPOT machine screening, a referral form will be sent home with your child. This sheet will recommend that a full eye exam for your child should be a priority. Please remember that a vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye exam and vision evaluation by an eye doctor.
Since no child should be denied proper eye care because of finances, Friends for Sight has several partnerships that provide free eye exams and glasses for those who qualify for financial assistance.
If you have any questions regarding vision screening, ages when full exams are recommended or would like any additional information, please call us at (801) 524-2020 or visit our website www.friendsforsight.org.
As a non-profit that relies on donations to fund our free screenings, please consider donating $2 to Friends for Sight when you renew your driver license or vehicle registration.
We are looking forward to screening your child at school!
Sincerely,
Friends for Sight Staff and Volunteers

Martial Arts at Bridge During BASE
Beginning February, Joeseon Martial Arts will begin renting our gym for their martial arts program. This provides a nice chunk of cash to Bridge but, additionally, they will be teaching two BASE classes each week - one on Tuesday and one on Thursday. Each grade will have an opportunity to attend the class each month. This was so well received when Champion martial arts provided us this opportunity we are really excited to be able to continue this for our BASE students. The schedule of which grade is attending martial arts each week for BASE is on our calendar. You can access our calendar from our webpage by selecting the CALENDAR icon.
Additionally, Joeseon Martial Arts have extended an offer to all Bridge students and students of Bridge staff. "Bridge students or staff who sign up in December, will get January tuition for free. The enrollment fee is $229 and will include everything needed to get started. Uniform, belt, T-shirt, gloves, USA taekwondo. Then in February tuition is $99 for one student and custom for two or more. They get $79 off the enrollment fee and $36 off each month thereafter, NO contracts."

6th Grade Teachers
Charie Murray
Hi, My name is Charie Murray. I have been a 6th grade teacher at Bridge Elementary for four years now and I have taught 6th grade specifically for nine years. I love teaching 6th grade! I love that I get to help them prepare for their next big step... Junior High.
When I am not at school, I spend my spare time playing board games, barbecuing in the summer, and RVing with my family. Some of my hobbies are sewing, gardening, and genealogy.
Naomi Gonzalez
Naomi Gonzalez is extremely excited to be a part of Bridge Elementary and to be teaching 6th grade. Naomi graduated from Weber State University with a degree in Elementary Education and a Math Endorsement. Although she was born in California, she has been living in Roy for most of her life and loves the community. Naomi speaks Spanish, has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, plays the piano, and is learning the violin. She enjoys learning new things and sharing that knowledge with others.

Visible Learning - Thoroughness
I Will....
- Plan my work.
- Pay attention to details.
- Make a list so I don't forget.
- Finish what I start.
- Clean up along the way.
By using these visible learning traits each day students will become lifelong learners who are set up for success. Please use this same verbiage at home and recognize when your student is using this trait.
