HOLY ROSARY SCHOOL
NEWSLETTER |TERM 4 |WEEK 6 |17 NOVEMBER 2023
Love of God and of humanity are not two separate things, as if one could love God but shun humanity. Compassionate action reflects and mirrors the divine image. Love is not an emotion or obligation but is God present in the soul.
— Wendy Farley
Hi Everyone,
Another really interesting and enjoyable week with class transitions throughout the week and with the ACM on Tuesday. We appreciated the attendance of many of you at the meeting on Tuesday evening to listen to the work being done by a lot of people to make our school the beautiful, happy, well-resourced place that it is. This is an ongoing journey, and worth every minute.
Congratulations to Rose and her P&F team for an outstanding ‘thank you to the community’ event last Friday. Some 250 people attended. Movie, pizza, face painting, popcorn - what’s not to like! The P&F have completed an outstanding year of community support. We salute you.
Next Tuesday evening sees the Canteen Party in the Staff room, and this will be a whole lot of fun! This is Leanna’s last, and it is a big, big deal for a wonderful, wonderful person. We wish all those going a fantastic time!
Friday sees Grandparents Lunch and we are looking forward to welcoming another huge crowd! This really is a fabulous afternoon.
Have a great weekend.

Transition, Class Lists and Staffing 2024
Transitions this week were fantastic. Children know their classes and have had the chance to meet together and hang out with their teacher for 2024, together with the new children joining them from other schools. What a great opportunity to connect. Many I know will catch up again over the holidays, which is wonderful.
By now you will have received both the class lists together with the staff list for 2024. Class lists take a lot of work to bring to fruition and I thank all in our team for being so invested in the process.
And now to staffing:
- Katherine Anderson who has done a great job in Year Two, leaves us after seven terms of being on secondment to head back up the coast to her substantive position in Butler.
- Misty Waters who has been in our Year Four Gang for one semester leaves us for a new position at MLC.
- Ana Johnson, currently on maternity leave and working part time south of the river is delighting in parenthood, and will not be returning.
- Paris Graham in Siena leaves us after one year as she is starting a family.
- Aleana Brennan’s family too is growing, and she will again be on maternity leave for 2024.
- Lisa Jeffcote leaves us after one year of teaching great Science, also for new adventures
- Leanna Wightman leaves us after fifteen years of running the best tuckshop in town.
- Fiona Ayling, on leave this semester, will be extending her leave for all of 2024. She is enjoying some well-deserved adventures!
- Sylvia Ryan in our Siena team is on leave for all of next year. Who knows Sylvia, you might bump into Fiona!
To all of you, thank you for your contribution to making 2023 such a good year. We are truly grateful for all that you have done in your time here and wish you every success and every happiness for 2024.
And for staffing 2024:
- Joe Kinder has been appointed to the position of Assistant Principal in a substantive capacity which is good news for Holy Rosary.
- Tegan Back will continue in her role as Assistant Principal in which she continues to do exceptional work. This is also good news for Holy Rosary.
- Our new teaching staff Alicia Matrenza (Year Four), Ian Puzon (Year Five) and Ann Walsh (Science) join us from, Karratha, Esperance and Ellenbrook respectively. They come highly recommended! Alicia and Ian have been here today for transition, ensuring their children know them, ready for next year.

Year 5 Leadership Day
Last Friday, the Year Five students spent the day reflecting on what it means to be a leader. The students took part in different activities and reflected on the skills that they believe a good leader should possess. The leadership journey continues for the Year Five students, who will be making their 2024 leadership speeches next week.
Grandparents Day
All grandparents are invited to bring lunch to school on Friday November 24th to enjoy with their grandchildren. They may also choose to order lunch from the canteen. Thank you, Leanna!
If grandparents aren't available, we invite grandparents to 'adopt' children from other families, or for other family members (uncles, aunts, even parents!) to take their place. All are welcome!
1.00pm: Collect a map of the school showing classes, (maps will be available outside the school office) and set up your picnic anywhere on the grounds including the oval.
1.10pm: Lunch with your grandchild
1:45 - 2:00pm: Students to go to the toilet and get a drink.
2:00 - 3:00pm: Visit Classrooms
We hope this will be a lovely way to spend time with one another and look forward to your company.
From Leanna:
Canteen: As on the Athletics Carnival Day, we will be having a "Special Events Menu”. All orders must be submitted on-line. Ice-Cream and drinks will be available over the counter.
When using Quikcliq please use the Add Student function for each grandparent. All must be labelled with the child's classroom.
Any questions, please call Leanna on 0414 953 958. Hope you have a wonderful day.
Future Superstar!
Congratulations to Edward N in Year 3, for taking out first place in yet another State Karting Competition. Edward’s trophy collection is rapidly growing – it won’t be long until he’s winning races on the Formula 1 circuit! Congratulations Edward!
SEQTA Engage Parent Log-in to access reports
It is important that you please check your log in for SEQTA Engage as early as possible so that you will be able to access your child's report at the end of this term.
To do this you need to go to the following site:
https://holyrosarydblv.coneqt-p.cathednet.wa.edu.au/
or follow the link from our school website to “SEQTA Engage - parents” and use your username and password credentials that you used previously.
Year Six families and families not returning in 2024, please ensure that you have downloaded or printed off any reports you wish to keep a copy of. Your child will be removed from Seqta at the end of the year, and you will no longer have access to these documents.
If you have remembered your username but have forgotten your password, please click on the 'Forgot your password' link and an immediate email will be sent to you. The email will expire within one hour, so please action this immediately.
Reports will be released on SEQTA on Friday 8 December at 3pm.
The Kindy classes had a special visit from Scarborough police!
Year Two students have been busy researching Australian animal facts in preparation for writing an animal report book. As a part of their Design and Technology lessons they have been busy designing and building an Australian animal habitat.
Facts about your Holy Rosary Library. The Library has been operating in it’s current location since 2013. Previous to this, it was located in what is now the Staff Room. The library has over 20,000 resources! 22,897 books were loaned to students in 2023. 41% of books loaned were fiction. Students have access to fiction, non fiction, graphic novels, picture books, biographies, puzzle books, books with accessible fonts, and a specialised Year Six only section, among many others. On any given day, 500 and even up to 800 books, may be processed in our library. This beautiful space holds 2 chess tournaments, 3 groups of Year Five book clubs and library sessions all year round and is always open at lunchtime on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In addition, the library houses a Teachers Resource Room, a Parent Library and supports an incredible Accelerated Reader Program. All books are now due back to the library for sorting, preparing and AR stickering, ready for 2024. Thank you for your support of this wonderful, safe and inviting space and ensuring your child’s books are returned or replaced before week 8.
Kindest regards,
Holly Butson
